A SPECIAL SMILIN’ HANK EDITION OF “THIS WEEK”

BURRIS’ BIG NIGHT

  • It was really Henry Burris’ night as the REDBLACKS defeated Montreal 39-17 last night
  • Burris completed 45 of 53 pass attempts for 504 yards
  • He threw two TD passes and ran for another two touchdowns
  • His 84.9 completion percentage was the highest in CFL history for a player attempting more than 40 passes (Anthony Calvillo completed 44 of 53 for 83% on October 4, 2008)
  • Burris’ 504 yard passing total ranks 24th in CFL history
  • Burris became the 26th quarterback in CFL history to pass for more than 500 yards in a single game
  • He completed 26 of 32 on first downs for 248 yards and a TD, and 19 of 21 on second downs for 256 yards and a TD
  • At one point during the game, he completed 17 passes in a row; later in the game, he completed 8 in a row
  • Burris did all this without completing even one pass for more than 30 yards (he did, however, complete 24 passes that gained more than 10 yards each)
  • He completed 14 2nd down conversion passes, the highest mark since the CFL started keeping that stat in 2008
  • The win was Burris’ 110th as a CFL starter (against 104 losses and three ties)
  • That places him fourth all-time behind Calvillo (167 wins), Damon Allen (163 wins) and Ron Lancaster (158)
  • Burris has started 217 games, while Calvillo started 277 and Allen started 302; Lancaster started 257
  • The win took an Ottawa club to the 8-win mark for the first time since 1992, when the Rough Riders finished 9-9
  • Ottawa now has a chance to place an Ottawa football team in the CFL playoffs for the first time since 1994
  • An Ottawa team could also post a 10-win season for the first time since 1978, when the Rough Riders finished 11-5
  • The REDBLACKS had 46 completions as a team last night, a CFL record that eclipses the 44 completions Montreal (Calvillo) had in 2008
  • Burris now ranks third on the all-time CFL passing list with 59,372 yards (Calvillo had 79,816 and Damon Allen had 72,381)
  • Burris has played 259 games compared to Calvillo’s 329 and Allen’s 370
  • Based on games played (as opposed to starts), Calvillo averaged 242.6 yards per game played, Allen averaged 195.6, and Burris has averaged 229.2
  • Burris has thrown 351 touchdowns, third all-time behind Calvillo (455) and Allen (394)
  • His lifetime completion percentage of 61.9 (4,205 of 6,218) is the fourth-best of all time behind Ricky Ray (67.6), Anthony Calvillo (62.4) and Kevin Glenn (62.3)
  • He has thrown 213 interceptions, tied with Sam Etcheverry and behind Ron Lancaster (396), Danny McManus (281), Allen (278), Calvillo (224) and Tom Clements (214)
  • Burris celebrated his 40th birthday on June 4th, 2015
