#iCraveFridays Kicks Off With the Addition of Eight-Part TSN Original Documentary Series ENGRAVED ON A NATION
CraveTVTM’s #iCraveFridays release schedule continues today with the release of the TSN Original documentary series ENGRAVED ON A NATION. Commissioned to celebrate the 100th Grey Cup Championship, the series features eight 60-minute episodes tackling the most iconic players and moments in CFL history, touching on legacy, the importance of hope, and acceptance.
From the Roughriders’ famed “13th man,” to the inspirational journey of legendary quarterback Anthony Calvillo, to how football has played an important role in times of political crisis; ENGRAVED ON A NATION demonstrates how the CFL has helped shape Canada’s identity.
Episode 1: “The 13th Man”
During the 97th Grey Cup, the Saskatchewan Roughriders received a last-minute “13th man” penalty, spoiling their championship hopes. In the wake of defeat, fans stood by their team proving that they are, and will forever be, the team’s “13th man”.
Episode 2: “Stone Thrower: The Chuck Ealey Story”
The first African-American quarterback to ever win a Grey Cup trophy, “Stone Thrower: The Chuck Ealey Story” recounts the tale of an Ohio-born football player who found refuge, a team, and a home in Canada.
Episode 3: “The Kid From La Puente”
Growing up in one of the poorest slums in L.A., Anthony Calvillo pushed through countless obstacles in his life before leading the Montréal Alouettes to Grey Cup victory and becoming pro football’s all-time passing leader.
Episode 4: “Playing a Dangerous Game”
Set against a backdrop of violence in Québec in the late ‘60s, quarterback Russ Jackson was determined to win what was destined to be one of the greatest games in CFL history.
Episode 5: “The Crash”
Following the 1965 All-Star Game in Vancouver, a plane carrying five players crashed, killing everyone on board. The tragedy sent shockwaves through the league that can still be felt to this day as the descendants of one of the athletes retrace the footsteps of the fateful flight.
Episode 6: “The Photograph”
Following the 1942 Toronto Royal Canadian Air Force Hurricanes’ Grey Cup victory, many members of the team went overseas and became casualties of war. Now, 70 years later, daughters of a player embark on a journey to discover why an old team photograph is their father’s most prized possession.
Episode 7: “Western Swagger”
Set against a background of Canada’s national energy debate, the legacy of the Edmonton Eskimos’ five consecutive Grey Cup victories displays Alberta’s unshakeable determination on and off the field.
Episode 8: “The Greatest Team That Never Won”
In their first Grey Cup appearance in 20 years, the 1971 Toronto Argonauts committed a last-second fumble, spoiling their run. Now, the stars of the team reunite to relive the game and the wild days in Toronto.
