Iconic trophy to take centre stage at Olympic Plaza as Grey Cup Week begins

CALGARY (November 14, 2019) – The Grey Cup trophy will arrive in Calgary on Tuesday, November 19 and will travel via a procession from CORE Shopping Centre to Olympic Plaza for a brief ceremony to officially welcome the iconic trophy to the home of the 107th Grey Cup presented by Shaw.

The procession down Stephen Avenue Walk (8th avenue) will feature the Grey Cup, the Regimental Pipes and Drums of The Calgary Highlanders, the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Ceremonial Mounted Troop, CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie, Shaw VP of External Affairs Chethan Lakshman, Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi, 2019 Grey Cup Festival Chair Mike Franco, and Stampeders legend and 2019 Canadian Football Hall of Fame inductee Jon Cornish.

The ceremony will include a brief word of welcome and opening remarks before a group photo opportunity. Details may be subject to change in the event of inclement weather.

The 107th Grey Cup presented by Shaw will be played on Sunday, November 24, 2019 in Calgary at McMahon Stadium, and broadcast across Canada on RDS and TSN – the country’s most-watched specialty network. This year’s championship will mark the fifth time Calgary has hosted the game and the first since the 97th Grey Cup in 2009.
