REMINDER: CFL COMMISSIONER TO GET WHITE HATTED TODAY
Tourism Calgary to bestow the city’s iconic honour upon Randy Ambrosie as Grey Cup Week begins
CALGARY (November 18, 2019) – Media members are invited to join Canadian Football League (CFL) Commissioner Randy Ambrosie at Lammle’s Western Wear today, as he is White Hatted by Tourism Calgary and fitted with cowboy boots.
Following the ceremony, Commissioner Ambrosie will be made available to media in anticipation of the 107th Grey Cup presented by Shaw.
The White Hat is an iconic symbol of Calgary’s international reputation for unrivalled hospitality and western roots. The city’s identification with the White Hat began when local Calgary hat maker Morris Shumiatcher of Smithbilt Hats introduced the first white cowboy hat in 1946.
Representatives of Calgary wore the white hats while cheering Calgary’s football team – the Calgary Stampeders – in the 1948 Grey Cup. The White Hat as a symbol for the city has grown in the years since and has been presented to world leaders, political figures, athletes, entertainers, musicians and more.
Media interested in attending the ceremony are asked to RSVP to Lucas Barrett at lbarrett@cfl.ca.
