SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – AUGUST

Harris, Nichols and Leggett named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 30, 2017) – Andrew Harris, Matt Nichols and Maurice Leggett were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for August of the CFL’s 2017 season.

Performer of the Month for August includes all appearances from Week 7 to Week 10.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | ANDREW HARRIS | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Andrew Harris had a terrific August, compiling 330 rushing yards while adding 192 receiving yards in four games.

The Winnipeg, MB native turned in a signature game in Week 9 against Edmonton in the Blue Bombers’ 33-25 victory with 11 separate carries (six rushes and five receptions) that went for over 10 yards, for an average of 9.5 yards per carry. With 105 rushing yards and 120 receiving yards, the game marked the first time a player has recorded 100+ rushing and receiving yards in a single game since 2010 (Montreal, Avon Cobourne).

Harris also collected 107 rushing yards on 14 carries in Week 8 against Hamilton. All of Harris’ August games featured an average yards-per-carry of over 5.8

Harris is in the process of compiling a historic season, one of his best in the CFL. He sits second in the CFL with 570 yards on 103 carries. He also has 490 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He remains on pace to become the first CFL player ever to record 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in a single season.

Harris was previously named a Shaw CFL Player of the Week in Week 9.

QB | MATT NICHOLS | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Matt Nichols help lead the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to a 4-0 August record and had the offence firing on all cylinders.

In the month of August Nichols completed 71.6% for 1,203 yards and six touchdowns to have the Blue Bombers in second place heading into Labour Day weekend.

In Week 9 he passed for a season-high 390 yards, adding two touchdowns, 23 rushing yards, and an 80% completion rate to give Edmonton their first loss of 2017. He is on pace for a career-best season in his sixth year in the CFL.

Nichols surrendered just one interception the past four games, and is on pace for the first 5,000-yard season of his career.

Nichols has 2641 yards in 2017, completing 70.2% of his passes to collect 17 touchdowns and a 103.2 efficiency rate. He was a Shaw CFL Top Performer for Week 9.

DB| MAURICE LEGGETT | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Maurice Leggett put up a strong defence to lead the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to a successful month.

During the four-game stretch Leggett recorded 19 tackles, notched three quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Leggett opened August with a standout performance against the Ottawa REDBLACKS in Week 7, collecting seven defensive tackles (including two quarterback sacks) and a forced fumble, helping Winnipeg to a last second 33-30 win.

The Valdosta State alum had a consistent August, collecting at least three defensive tackles per game.

Despite missing two games to injury earlier in the season, Leggett has 32 defensive tackles (including three sacks), three forced fumbles (leading the league in a three-way tie for first place) and an interception in 2017.

The McKeesport, Pennsylvania native was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 7.
