SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – AUGUST
Jorden, Hughes and Reilly named Shaw CFL Top Performers
TORONTO (August 29th, 2018) – Kamar Jorden, Charleston Hughes and Mike Reilly were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for August of the CFL’s 2018 season.
Performer of the Month for August includes all appearances from Week 8 through Week 11.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
REC | KAMAR JORDEN | CALGARY STAMPEDERS
Kamar Jorden had a productive August, scoring three touchdowns in three games and setting his top two career best marks.
Jorden leads the CFL in 30+ yard catches, with an astonishing 11 deep runs.
He reached a career-best (and Stampeder club record for most receiving yards in a single game) in Week 11’s game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, collecting 249 yards on 10 receptions. That mark is also the best of any CFL receiver this season. He also notched 185 yards against BC in a big performance in Week 8.
The former Bowling Green Falcon is second in the league in receiving yards with 895. In nine games, he has six touchdowns and 52 receptions.
Jorden was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Weeks 8 and 11.
DL | CHARLESTON HUGHES | SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS
Defensive lineman Charleston Hughes is having an outstanding season, leading a strong Saskatchewan defence.
Hughes leads the CFL with 12 sacks – for losses of 72 yards –, more than double his closest competitor for the title.
The Saginaw, Michigan native collected four sacks in three games in August, as well as two forced fumbles.
Hughes has 25 defensive tackles, 12 sacks, three forced fumbles (and 57 fumble return yards) and one touchdown in nine games played. This is his sixth season with 10+ sacks.
Hughes was also a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 1.
QB | MIKE REILLY | EDMONTON ESKIMOS
Quarterback Mike Reilly had a productive month, throwing nine touchdowns and rushing for an additional three majors.
He has three 400+ yard games this season, including a season-best 424 yards during his Week 10 game against Montreal. He has also completed more 20+ yard attempts than any other quarterback with 34.
Reilly leads the CFL in passing yards with 3,296 and 22 touchdowns. He is on pace for 5,932 yards; the last time a quarterback passed for 6,000 yards was when Anthony Calvillo did so in 2004 (6,024).
Reilly was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Weeks 1, 7, and 10 and a Top Performer of the Month for June.
