SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – JULY

Reilly, Ellingson and Butler named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 2nd, 2017) – Mike Reilly, Greg Ellingson and Victor Butler were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for July of the CFL’s 2017 season.

Performer of the Month for July includes all appearances from Week 1 to Week 6.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | MIKE REILLY | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly steered his team to a flawless 5-0 start to the 2017 season, collecting nine touchdowns, 1628 passing yards and a 72.3% efficiency rating along the way.

The Kennewick, Washington native also has 44 rushing yards. He has passed for over 260 yards every week in 2017. Until Week 6’s game against the BC Lions he was the only interception-free quarterback in the CFL, with 220 consecutive pass attempts without an interception.

Reilly leads the league’s QUAR quarterback ratings with a 91.1 efficiency rate.

In that July 28th game, Reilly sent a 108-yard pass to Vidal Hazelton, now the longest reception in Edmonton history.

Reilly is a two-time Grey Cup Champion (2011 and 2015) and a Grey Cup MVP (2015).

WR | GREG ELLINGSON | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

Ottawa receiver Greg Ellingson started his fifth year in the CFL with a bang, collecting three touchdowns and turning in big performances.

Ellingson has collected over 100 yards three times in 2017, including standout performances against Toronto in Week 3 (170 yards, one touchdown) and Montreal in Week 5 (149 yards, one touchdown).

The Tampa, Florida native made the longest reception of his CFL career in Week 5 against Montreal, an 80-yard catch for a touchdown that gave the Ottawa squad their only win of the season.

Ellingson leads the league in receiving yards (643) and receptions caught (39). He reached over 1000 receiving yards both years with the REDBLACKS, 2015 and 2016, and is on pace to do so again.

He is a 2016 Grey Cup Champion and a CFL East All-Star, and was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week in Week 20 of 2016.

DL | VICTOR BUTLER | TORONTO ARGONAUTS

First-year CFL player Victor Butler had an outstanding debut with the Toronto Argonauts, racking up three forced fumbles and 17 defensive tackles including seven quarterback sacks in five games played.

The former Oregon State Beaver had a standout performance in Week 3 against the Ottawa REDBLACKS, where he collected five defensive tackles alongside a hat trick of sacks against quarterback Trevor Harris for a total loss of 25 yards.

Although he missed the Argos’ Week 6 game with an injury, Butler continues to lead the league in sacks with seven, all earned in his first three games in the league.

While at Oregon State, Butler tied a school single-game sack record with four in the 2008 Sun Bowl, set a record for most tackles for a loss in a single season (21.5) and recorded 26 career sacks (second in school history).
