SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – OCTOBER

Brandon Banks, Bo Levi Mitchell and Dane Evans named October’s Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month

TORONTO (October 31, 2019) – Brandon Banks, Bo Levi Mitchell and Dane Evans were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for October of the CFL’s 2019 season. The selections include all appearances from Weeks 17 to 20.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges comprised of former CFL players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, as well as, Pierre Vercheval of RDS, who independently send their selections to the CFL head office.

WR | BRANDON BANKS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Brandon Banks added a spectacular October to an already incredible campaign as Hamilton went 3-0 in the month and set a new franchise record for wins in a season (14).

Across the trio of games, Banks hauled in 26 receptions on 35 targets for 398 yards and five touchdowns. He collected his seventh and eighth (a league-high) 100+ receiving yard efforts, including a career-high 201-yard showing in Week 20.

The Kansas State alum’s performance in the season’s penultimate game also included three touchdowns on 11 catches as Banks rewrote the team’s history books and set a new standard for receptions in a single season (112).

In 16 games, Banks has established new personal-bests in receptions, receiving yards (1,550) and receiving touchdowns (13), and leads the league in all three categories.

The native of Garner, N.C., has bookended the season with Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Month selections (June and October) and has received weekly recognitions in Weeks 5, 9 and 20.

QB | BO LEVI MITCHELL | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

With the 2019 post-season drawing nearer, Bo Levi Mitchell ramped up his game in October. This past month, the Katy, Texas, native compiled 1,449 passing yards and 10 touchdowns while completing 72.3% of his attempts.

Mitchell reached the 300+ passing yard plateau on three occasions and narrowly missed the mark by two yards in Week 18. He opened the month by completing 31 passes for a season-high 464 yards and added a touchdown.

Over the course of the month, the Eastern Washington alum threw one additional major each week, culminating in his standout showing in Week 20. Mitchell matched a career-best four TD passes while collecting 350 yards on 31 passes.

Despite being limited to 10 games this season, Mitchell ranks seventh in passing yards (3,181) and is tied for fifth in passing TDs (18).

QB | DANE EVANS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Dane Evans’ breakout campaign continued with an impressive October. The Hamilton pivot tallied 1,108 passing yards, seven touchdowns and a 78% completion rate while guiding his team to a trio of decisive victories in an undefeated month.

In Week 19, Evans threw for a career-high 452 yards and a touchdown as the Tiger-Cats reached 13 wins for the first time in the team’s storied past. His follow-up performance came on the road against Montreal – the East Division’s second-seeded team. Evans went 29-for-36 (80.6%), throwing for 379 yards and establishing a new personal-best with four touchdowns.

The pair of performances earned the Sanger, Texas, native back-to-back Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week honours in addition to selections in Weeks 12 and 16.

Evans’ October-recognition marks his second-straight month of being named among the league’s best. His 3,754 passing yards are good for sixth in the CFL and he sits third in touchdown passes (21).
