Mitchell, Paredes and Toliver named Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month

TORONTO (August 31, 2016) – Bo Levi Mitchell, Rene Paredes and Terrence Toliver were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for August of the CFL’s 2016 season.

Performer of the Month selection includes all appearances from Week 7 to Week 10.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | Bo Levi Mitchell | Calgary Stampeders

In the month of August Bo Levi Mitchell had the Calgary Stampeders cruising going a perfect 4-0 and has the team in first place in the West Division.

The Texan completed 98 of 143 pass attempts (68.5%) totaling 1,274 yards, four touchdown passes and only one interception during the four games.

In the Week 9 game versus BC Lions in Vancouver, with first place in the West Division in the balance, Mitchell played his best game. He completed 73.7% of his passes converting that to 340 yards and recorded two touchdown passes in the Stampeders 37-9 victory.

In the four-game stretch he surpassed the 300-yard mark three times bringing his 2016 season total to seven games.

In his fifth season in the CFL, Mitchell is on pace to break several of his personal-bests including passing yards, touchdowns and completions.

This season Mitchell is second in the league with 2,857 passing yards, second in touchdowns with 15 and second in completions with 225.

K | Rene Paredes | Calgary Stampeders

As the Calgary Stampeders went a perfect 4-0 in the month of August, so did Rene Paredes kicking a perfect 17 for 17 on field goal attempts.

The Concordia Stingers product started August converting all five field goal attemtps against Saskatchewan, followed up going four for four once again versus Saskatchewan, then three for three in the game in BC and to end the month he went five for five against Hamilton.

Overall, Paredes has connected on 28 consecutive field goal attempts entering Week 11.

Paredes went near perfect on converts going six for seven, bringing his total points scored to 57 for the month of August.

On the season, Paredes has made 32 field goals (the most in the CFL) and owns a field goal success rate of 88.9%. At the halfway point Paredes is on pace to set a record for most field goals made as well as attempted.

Paredes was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week in Week 7.

REC | Terrence Toliver | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats receiver Terrence Toliver was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Month after compiling 500 receiving yards in four games.

The Louisiana State University product hauled in 24 receptions for 500 yards and had four touchdowns in August.

In Week 9 he also had another CFL week-high 139 yards on five catches including a 47-yard touchdown reception. Toliver followed that performance with another CFL week-high 183 yards on nine receptions and two touchdowns versus the Calgary Stampeders.

The Hempstead, Texas native recorded three 100-yard games in August. Including his Week 9 and 10 game he also went over 100 yards in Week 7 versus Winnipeg with 120 yards.

Toliver has played in six games this season and has 29 receptions for 542 yards (16.5 yards per reception) good enough for fourth on the Tiger-Cats and has five touchdowns.
