SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE MONTH

Harris, Howard and Cato take July's honours

Trevor Harris, Marcus Howard and Rakeem Cato were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for July of the CFL's 2015 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

The Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for July include player performances from Weeks 1 to 5.

QB | Trevor Harris | Toronto Argonauts

After starting four games away from Toronto, Harris has led the Argonauts to first place in the East Division with an impressive 3-1 record.

In the opening four games, Harris has completed 74.8 percent of his passes for 1,177 yards while passing for a lead-leading 11 touchdowns, with only four interceptions and a QB rating of 114.1.

In the Argonauts' season opener in Fort McMurray, Alberta Harris completed 24 of 27 passes for 347 yards and tossed three touchdowns to open the year with a convincing 26-11 win over the Edmonton Eskimos.

More recently in Week 5, with the visiting Argonauts down 21-0, Harris brought the team all the way back and beat the B.C. Lions 30-27. In the game Harris passed for 340 yards, threw a pair of touchdowns and ran one in.

Harris, a former Edinboro University Fighting Scot, holds several major career team records including passing yards (11,899 yards), completions (966) and touchdowns (100).

The Waldo, Ohio native was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week in Weeks 1 and 2.

DE | Marcus Howards | Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos' defensive end Marcus Howard was named the first defensive Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week after a stellar performance against the Ottawa REDBLACKS.

Howard is tied for the league lead in sacks with five despite missing one game, and has recorded at least one sack in each of the three games he has played.

He has notched a pair of sacks on two separate occasions in the 2015 season: in Week 1 versus Toronto and Week 4 versus Ottawa.

The former Georgia Bulldog is on pace to eclipse his personal best in sacks, which he set in 2011 with eleven.

The five-year CFL veteran from Huger, South Carolina has recorded eight tackles on the season.

QB | Rakeem Cato | Montreal Alouettes

In the first month of his CFL career, Montreal Alouettes quarterback Rakeem Cato has compiled a 2-1 record while taking the league by storm.

In his first three starts, Cato has passed for 822 yards while completing 72.2 percent of his passes, throwing four touchdown passes and owning a 105.9 QB rating.

Making his first-career start against the Calgary Stampeders, he threw a trio of touchdown passes to lead the Alouettes to a 29-11 home victory over the reigning Grey Cup Champions.

In a Week 3 loss to Winnipeg, Cato eclipsed the 300-yard barrier when he completed 22 passes for 317 yards.

Not only is the Miami, Florida native doing it all with his arm, but has demonstrated that he can also run the ball by averaging 6.4 yards a carry during his first three starts.

The former Marshall Thundering Herd player owns several school passing records including passing yards, touchdowns and completions.  He is currently eighth in the league in passing yards.

Cato was recognized as the Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week in Week 2.
