SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER

White, Arceneaux and Reilly take home October’s honours

Toronto (November 3, 2015) – John White, Emmanuel Arceneaux and Mike Reilly were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for October of the CFL’s 2016 season.

Performer of the Month includes all appearances from Week 15 to Week 19.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | JOHN WHITE | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Edmonton Eskimos running back John White accumulated an average of 7.1 yards per carry in the month of October to help the Eskimos go 3-1 and punch their ticket to the Grey Cup Playoffs.

In those four October games White rushed for 457 yards, scoring five touchdowns on the ground and adding 14 receptions for 91 yards.

In three of the four games, the product from University of Utah rushed for over 100 yards: in week 15 versus Winnipeg (104 yards), in Week 16 versus Montreal (145 yards) and in Week 19 versus Hamilton (132 yards).

In his third season in the CFL, White has tallied 886 rushing yards on 164 carries (5.4 yards per rush) and has scored eight rushing touchdowns. He has also displayed his pass catching skills, hauling in a career-high 58 receptions for 464 yards.

This year the Torrance, California native has been named a Shaw CFL Top Performer twice, in Weeks 15 and 16.

REC | Emmanuel Arceneaux | BC Lions

In his five October games, Emmanuel Arceneaux amassed 430 receiving yards, four touchdowns, and 28 completions.

The CFL’s top touchdown receiver continued his standout year, with strong performances to keep BC in the hunt for a home playoff game.

Arceneaux began October with a 64-yard game against Ottawa, making a 49-yard catch in the first quarter to put teammate Chris Rainey in scoring position on the following play. After the strong start he never looked back, making big contributions all month.

His 150 yards and 10/14 catches against Winnipeg in Week 16 was his most productive showing, but his 132 yards and two touchdowns in Week 18 against Edmonton came in clutch. He netted two majors in the second quarter, including a stellar five-play BC drive that saw “The Manny Show” catch three balls, culminating in a 70-yard catch for the touchdown.

Arceneaux leads CFL receivers in receiving touchdowns with 11; he is third in receiving yards with 1,386 and fifth in caught receptions with 95.

Arceneaux has been named a Shaw Top Performer twice in 2016, in Weeks 14 and 18.

QB | MIKE REILLY | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Mike Reilly joins his Edmonton teammate John White as one of the Shaw CFL Top Performers for the month of October.

The CFL’s leading passer continued his stellar play into October. In Edmonton’s four games he completed 73.3 per cent of his passes while passing for 1,201 yards, seven touchdown passes and only one interception in 135 pass attempts.

In Reilly’s best game in Week 15 versus Winnipeg, Reilly completed 84.2% of his passes for 355 yards and two touchdowns in Edmonton’s 40-26 victory over Winnipeg at Investors Group Field. Not to be outdone, the following week against Montreal Reilly passed for 346 yards, threw two majors and scored a touchdown on the ground in another victory.

In the four weeks of games, Reilly scored three rushing touchdowns.

This season, Reilly leads the league in passing with 5,554 yards. He has 448 completions for first place in the CFL, and is second in touchdown passes with 28.

Reilly has been named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week three times (in Weeks 5, 15 and 16) as well as a Top Performer of the Month in July.
