SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK - Week 7

Davis, Harris and Shologan named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 11, 2015) – Emanuel Davis, Andrew Harris and Keith Shologan were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 7 of the CFL’s 2015 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

#1 DB | Emanuel Davis | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cat defensive back Emanuel Davis was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer after his remarkable performance in the Ticats’ 38-8 victory against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday to extend Hamilton’s winning streak to three games.

In Sunday’s game, Davis filled the stats sheet with four tackles, two interceptions (that he also returned for touchdowns) and a pass knockdown to help the Ticats improve to 9-0 at Tim Hortons Field.

Davis opened the scoring in the game after he jumped a route on a Drew Willy tipped pass that was intended for Clarence Denmark. He went on to return it for a 65-yard touchdown to give the Ticats the early lead in the first quarter.

The Manteo, North Carolina native notched his second interception of the game late in the fourth quarter after catching a Robert Marve pass that he returned 53 yards for the major.

A product of East Carolina University, Davis is tied for second with three interceptions on the season. Davis has returned all three of this season’s interceptions for touchdowns.

Davis is the first player to return two interceptions for TDs in the same game since Byron Parker did in September 2004. He is also the first Ticats player to ever do so in one game.

#2 RB | Andrew Harris | BC Lions

BC Lions running back Andrew Harris collected 175 total yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the Lions’ fourth quarter 26-23 comeback victory over the Edmonton Eskimos at B.C. Place on Thursday.

On the ground, Harris rushed the ball 20 times for a season-high 118 yards and one touchdown. This marked back-to-back games that he was able to rush for over 100 yards. He scored his rushing touchdown on the opening drive in the second half from a yard out to cut the scoring deficit to 23-16.

Harris added four receptions for 57 yards including the pivotal touchdown to cap the comeback with 1:11 left on the clock.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native has been off to a great start this season. Harris currently leads the league in rushing with 519 yards, is averaging 5.4 yards per carry through six games and also leads the league in total yards from scrimmage with 807.

Harris is also the league-leader in touchdowns with six touchdowns so far this year: four rushing and two receiving.

This marks the second time a Canadian has been named Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week, with the first being Calgary Stampeder, Jon Cornish in Week 4.

#3 DL | Keith Shologan | Ottawa REDBLACKS

Ottawa’s Keith Shologan was named Shaw CFL Top Performer after the Ottawa REDBLACKS’ late home win over the Montreal Alouettes on Friday.

In the game, Shologan recorded five tackles including a career-high three sacks. The trio of sacks accumulated a total loss of 27 yards; it was his third career multi-sack game.

After administering heavy pressure in the first half, the Spruce Grove, Alberta native sent Montreal quickly to a two and out in the third quarter with his second sack of the game against quarterback Rakeem Cato. Shologan recorded his final sack of the contest with 1:25 remaining to stave off an attempt by Montreal to catch the REDBLACKS’ score. With 12 tackles in six games (an average of two tackles per game), Shologan is on pace to eclipse his season high of tackles (31 in 2013).

Both of Shologan’s two other tackles were also tackles for a loss; resulting in four yards lost in total.

Shologan is the second defensive player for the REDBLACKS and the first defensive Canadian player to receive Shaw CFL Top Performer honours. Shologan is the third Canadian to be named a Shaw Top Performer this season – Calgary Stampeder, Jon Cornish and BC Lions, Andrew Harris were the first two.
