SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK - Week 8

Bo Levi Mitchell, Zach Collaros and Eric Norwood named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO  – Bo Levi Mitchell, Zach Collaros and Eric Norwood were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 8 of the CFL’s 2015 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

#1 Bo Levi Mitchell | QB | Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer after manufacturing four total touchdowns in Calgary’s Week 8 victory over the Ottawa REDBLACKS at McMahon Stadium.

Mitchell completed 17 of 25 passes (68 per cent) for 248 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns in against the REDBLACKS.

On his first touchdown pass, Mitchell rolled out to his left and threw a strike to receiver Joe West for the 17-yard major. Mitchell then found Eric Rogers for the 23-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

The Katy, Texas native also ran for a pair of touchdowns: his first from 11 yards out and another from one yard out.

Mitchell, the 102nd Grey Cup MVP, sits third in the league in passing yards with 1,865 while completing 64.4 per cent of his passes; he has also thrown nine majors.

The product of Eastern Washington was selected as the winner of the Walter Payton Award given to the top player in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision during the 2010-11 campaign.

#2 Zach Collaros | QB | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Zach Collaros threw for four touchdowns to continue the Ticats’ four-game winning streak en route to being named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the week.

Collaros opened Saturday’s game by finding Terrell Sinkfield Jr. for an eight-yard swing pass and Brandon Banks for a 44-yard pass to put the Ticats ahead in the first quarter. He soon added a 58-yard touchdown pass to Tiquan Underwood and pulled the Ticats away from the Lions by 24-0, a lead they never lost.

The former Cincinnati Bearcat had a precise and efficient game, completing 19 of 23 passes (83 per cent) with zero interceptions for 290 yards.

A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Collaros continued his hot start to the game with a 24-yard pass to Ray Holley followed by a three-yard pass to Luke Tasker for another touchdown to shake up the third quarter defensive battle. His three successive throws (for six yards, 43 yards, and 15 yards respectively) to Luke Tasker at the close of the third included a highlight-reel touchdown pass that secured the Ticats their 10th consecutive home win at Tim Hortons Field.

Collaros currently has 14 touchdowns on the season, good for second in the league, and leads the league in passing yards for the 2015 season with 2,014.

#3 Eric Norwood | DE | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive end Eric Norwood was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer after helping Hamilton move 10-0 at Tim Hortons Field with the 52-22 win over the B.C. Lions.

The product of the University of South Carolina scored his first career touchdown after Ted Laurent forced the fumble on BC Lions running back Andrew Harris and Norwood collected the loose ball and returned it 26 yards to give Hamilton the 13-0 advantage in the first quarter.

Later in the quarter, Norwood tracked down Lions’ quarterback Travis Lulay for a three-yard sack that stalled the Lions’ drive.

On the final play of the first quarter, Norwood wrapped up Andrew Harris and forced a fumble that was recovered by his teammate Donald Washington.

The Acworth, Georgia native recorded a total of four tackles in the game to give him a total of 15 tackles and four sacks on the season.

The former South Carolina Gamecock holds career records in tackles for a loss with 54.5 and sacks with 29.

This marks the third occasion a team has had multiple players land in the Shaw CFL Top Performers in the same week (Week 4 with Edmonton and Week 5 with Ottawa).
