Brandon Banks, Mike Reilly and Jeremiah Masoli were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for October of the CFL’s 2017 season.

Performer of the Month for October includes all appearances from Week 16 to Week 19.

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 19

REC | DIONTAE SPENCER | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

Receiver and returner Diontae Spencer was key in the Ottawa REDBLACKS’ 41-36 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at TD Place on Friday night. His 496 total all-purpose yards set a new all-time CFL record for most combined yards in a regular season game.

Spencer gained 133 receiving yards, 169 punt return yards, 165 kickoff return yards and 29 missed field goal return yards to eclipse the previous record of 474, set by Albert Johnson III (WPG) on July 21st, 2000. It was just the sixth time in CFL history that a player collected more than 400 total yards in a regular season game.

His longest play of the game was a 61-yard punt return in the second quarter. The win was crucial as it has the REDBLACKS in first place in the East Division. With a Toronto loss in Week 20, Ottawa would host the Eastern Final on November 19.

In his third year in the CFL, Spencer has 922 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 71 receptions. He also has 41 rushing yards, 260 missed field goal return yards, 607 kickoff return yards, 929 punt return yards, and one punt return touchdown. He is second in the CFL in punt returns.

Spencer was previously named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Weeks 2, 10, and 13.

RB | CHRIS RAINEY | BC LIONS

Chris Rainey’s two touchdowns and 304 all-purpose yards helped the BC Lions to a 36-27 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Investors Group Field on Saturday.

Rainey collected 106 rushing yards on 16 carries, contributing 89 receiving yards and two touchdowns in an impressive performance.

The fourth-year CFL veteran scored his first of the game in the last minutes of the first quarter, catching a five-yard pass from Jonathan Jennings and running along the goal line and over to give the Lions an early lead.

With the teams separated by just two points in the fourth quarter, Rainey caught a 40-yard strike from Jennings just as he crossed into the end zone to get his second touchdown of the game.

This is Rainey’s first appearance as a Shaw CFL Top Performer in 2017. This year he has 100 missed field goal return yards, 224 rushing yards, 489 receiving yards, 664 punt return yards, 1,523 kickoff return yards and six total touchdowns.

WR | BRANDON BANKS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Receiver and return man Brandon Banks racked up 193 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ loss to the Ottawa REDBLACKS.

After a 12-yard reception earlier in Hamilton’s scoring drive, Banks caught another 12-yard pass from Jeremiah Masoli in the final minutes of the first quarter, running it through the back of the end zone for a touchdown to build on the Ticats’ early lead.

The Kansas State alum got his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a 42-yard pass from Masoli. Banks evaded two defenders, spinning out of their clutches and into the end zone with the football for the major.

Banks, who has 935 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in 2017, was a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 18.
