SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS OF WEEK 4

Bell, Cornish and Howard named top performers in Week 4

Shakir Bell, Jon Cornish and Marcus Howard were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 4 of the CFL's 2015 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges including former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | Shakir Bell | Edmonton Eskimos

Shakir Bell made his CFL debut for the Edmonton Eskimos a memorable one after he helped lead the Eskimos to a 23-12 win over the Ottawa REDBLACKS, in Ottawa.

The single-season rushing yards leader at Indiana State carried the football on 18 occasions throughout the game and recorded 144 rushing yards, the most recorded by a single player in a game this season.

The first-year CFL player and Indianapolis, Indiana native also added a pair of receptions for 10 yards.

With his impressive game, Bell currently sits ninth on the CFL rushing list.

RB | Jon Cornish | Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish recorded 120 rushing yards in the Stampeders' 26-25 comeback victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at McMahon Stadium.

The nine-year veteran and New Westminster, British Columbia native carried the ball 18 times for a season-high 120 yards.  It was his first game with over 100 rushing yards; one season ago he notched that feat six times.

Cornish, a former Kansas Jayhawk and single-season rushing yard leader rushed the ball for nine or more yards six times during the contest.

Through four games, Cornish has rushed for 305 yards (5.6 yards per carry) and is only one yard behind Saskatchewan Roughriders running back Jerome Messam for the lead.

Cornish becomes the second Calgary Stampeder to be a recipient of Shaw CFL Top Performers this season. Jeff Fuller was recognized in Week 1.

DE | Marcus Howard | Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos defensive end Marcus Howard becomes the first defensive player to be named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week.

Howard notched four tackles including a pair of sacks and a forced fumble in the Eskimos' 23-12 road victory over Ottawa.

The Huger, South Carolina native sacked Henry Burris twice in the fourth quarter. One of these sacks resulted in an 11-yard loss, and the other was a five-yard sack wherein he forced a fumble.

In only two games this season, Howard has recorded four sacks, tying him with Montreal Alouettes' defensive lineman John Bowman first in the sacks.

The 2008 Sugar Bowl MVP with the Georgia Bulldogs is currently on pace to eclipse his personal high in sacks with 11 in one season.

This is the first time two players from the same team have been named Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week in the same week.
