SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS OF WEEK 9

Daly, Collaros and Sinkfield named Shaw CFL Top Performers

Mike Daly, Zach Collaros and Terrell Sinkfield Jr. were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 9 of the CFL’s 2015 season.

This marks the second time this season a team has swept Shaw Top Performers of the Week; the first was in Week 5 when a trio of Ottawa REDBLACKS players were named Top Performers.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

#1 Mike Daly | DB | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive back Mike Daly had two interceptions, seven defensive tackles, a forced fumble, and a quarterback sack in Friday’s 49-20 win over the Edmonton Eskimos at Commonwealth Stadium.

Daly contributed to Hamilton’s league-leading 13 interceptions when he picked off a Matt Nichols pass and returned it 51 yards in the first quarter, his first of the game. Daly himself is currently fifth in the league for interceptions with three – his third of the 2015 season came in the third quarter on a James Franklin pass intended for Kenny Stafford. Daly returned it for 26 yards.

The Kitchener, Ontario native added a forced fumble on Franklin in the fourth quarter, and followed Franklin’s subsequent recovery of his own fumble with a quarterback sack.

This season, Daly has accumulated 15 tackles and is tied for the team-lead with three interceptions.

The former McMaster Marauder doubled his 2015 defensive tackle total with seven in Friday’s contest. Daly remains tied for third for most passes intercepted in a single season with five, and ranks fourth at McMaster in most passes intercepted with 13 career steals.

Daly becomes the first Canadian to place first for the weekly award.

#2 Zach Collaros | QB | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Zach Collaros accounted for four touchdowns to help lead the Ticats to their fifth straight victory after downing the Edmonton Eskimos 49-20 at Commonwealth Stadium.

Collaros completed 18 of his 30 pass attempts and converted that into 325 passing yards, marking the second time this season he has eclipsed the 300-yard barrier.

In the first quarter, Collaros found Terrell Sinkfield moving to his right in the corner of the end zone from 22 yards out to open the scoring in the game. On the Ticats’ third possession of the game, Collaros was once again able to find Sinkfield for a 10-yard major to give the Ticats a 13-7 lead.

Collaros then found Terrence Tolliver for 12-yard major to extend the Ticats’ lead to 34-17 in the third quarter.

A native of Steubenville, Ohio, Collaros topped off his game by scoring his own touchdown on a three-yard quarterback sneak, his first of the season.

This is the second consecutive week as a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week for the product of the University of Cincinnati.

Collaros currently leads the league in passing yards with 2,339, sits second in touchdown passes with 17 and has completed 70% of his passes.

#3 Terrell Sinkfield Jr. | WR | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats wide receiver Terrell Sinkfield Jr. caught two touchdowns and recorded 118 receiving yards against the Edmonton Eskimos to continue the Ticats’ five-game winning streak.

Sinkfield had a busy first quarter, opening the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown pass at the back corner of the end zone from quarterback Zach Collaros. He followed it up with a one-yard snag, and then danced through traffic and shook off a tackle to make another reception, this one for 19 yards.

The Minnetonka, Minnesota native closed the first quarter with a 10-yard touchdown pass, his second of the game. His six receptions and 118 receiving yards were career-highs for the third-year player.

The product of Northern Iowa also caught a deep 63-yard pass in the second quarter, setting up teammate Ray Holley for an easy one-yard run-in touchdown on the following play.
