SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – SEPTEMBER

Masoli, Powell, Ward named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (October 3rd, 2018) – Jeremiah Masoli, William Powell and Lewis Ward were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for September of the CFL’s 2018 season.

Performer of the Month for September includes all appearances from Week 12 through Week 16

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | JEREMIAH MASOLI | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli has emerged as a leader on Hamilton, turning in a stellar month at the helm of the Ticats.

Masoli scored 12 passing touchdowns in September, helping Hamilton to three wins in that time.

The San Francisco native ranks second among CFL QBs with 4,286 passing yards. He has 21 touchdowns on 309 completed passes. He also rushed for 430 yards and two touchdowns in 59 attempts this year.

Masoli was previously named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Weeks 2, 3 and 12, as well as a Top Performer of the Month for June.

RB | WILLIAM POWELL | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

Running back William Powell had an impressive September, scoring two touchdowns. He had two games of 140+ yards (in Weeks 14 and 15), and registered 15+ carries three times.

He had a standout game in Week 14 against Saskatchewan, recording a season-high 148 rushing yards. His two touchdowns came in this game: one on a 19-yard run after powering through several defenders, and another on a big 69-yard play.

In his third CFL season, Powel has recorded his second consecutive 1000+ yard rushing season.

Powell leads all running backs with 1,141 yards and 208 carries. He was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 14.

K | LEWIS WARD | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

Kicker Lewis Ward continued his historic streak in September, kicking 13 straight successful field goals this month.

Ward has now kicked 37 consecutive field goals, breaking the CFL record for a single-season streak. He is just two away from matching the record for longest streak (39, set by Rene Paredes in 2012-2013).

The former uOttawa Gee-Gee has made 40 of his 41 field goal attempts, scoring on 97.6%. He also made three successful converts in September and 11 converts total, scoring a total of 131 points for Ottawa, including 42 in September.

Ward was a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Weeks 7 and 15.
