SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – SEPTEMBER

Bralon Addison, Dane Evans and Charleston Hughes named September’s Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month

TORONTO (October 2, 2019) – Bralon Addison, Dane Evans and Charleston Hughes were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for September of the CFL’s 2019 season. The selections include all appearances from Weeks 12 to 16.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges comprised of former CFL players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, as well as, Pierre Vercheval of RDS, who independently send their selections to the CFL head office.

WR | BRALON ADDISON | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Second-year receiver Bralon Addison continues to distinguish himself as a member of the CFL’s crop of young star players.

As the Tiger-Cats amassed a 3-1 record in September, Addison recorded 27 receptions for 497 yards and four touchdowns, while adding another 92 yards on the ground. He tallied three straight games with 100+ receiving yards before falling just shy of the mark (90 yards) in Week 16.

The Oregon product’s best game came in Week 12 against Toronto as part of Mark’s Labour Day Weekend. Addison reeled in 11 passes for 167 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns – both of which came in the second half as the Tiger-Cats rallied for an impressive 38-27 come-from-behind win. The clutch showing garnered him a selection as a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week.

This season, the Missouri City, Texas, native ranks second in the league in receptions (82), third in receiving yards (1,070) and is tied for third in receiving touchdowns (seven).

QB | DANE EVANS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Dane Evans guided the Tiger-Cats to three victories this past month and the team enters October on the cusp of the East Division title.

The Labour Day Classic saw Hamilton fall behind by 13 points at the half, but Evans staged a stunning turnaround to take the annual matchup 38-27. Evans finished the day with a trio of touchdowns and established new personal bests in completions (31), passing yards (442) and rushing yards (42).

In Week 16 against a Winnipeg squad which held a share of first in the West Division, the Tulsa product completed 25-of-32 passes (78%) while throwing three touchdowns for a second consecutive game, as Hamilton claimed a decisive 33-13 victory. With the effort, Evans accumulated 300+ passing yards in each game in September, while totaling 1,497.

The two standout performances earned the Sanger, Texas, native a pair of Shaw Top Performer of the Week selections. Evans has started on eight occasions this season, and has compiled 2,656 passing yards with a 70.1% completion rate and 17 touchdowns – 10 of which came in September (nine pass, one rush).

DL | CHARLESTON HUGHES | SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

Roughriders defensive lineman Charleston Hughes served as a steadying force and anchored the Saskatchewan defence in September as the team secured a playoff berth.

Of the team’s four games this past month, Hughes made three appearances – all of which resulted in wins. In those contests, the opposition averaged just over 19 points, while Hughes totaled 11 defensive tackles and five sacks.

The native of Saginaw, Mich., recorded at least one sack in each game in September and notched a pair in the Labour Day Classic in Week 12 and two more in Week 16 in Toronto.

Hughes has 41 tackles on the year and leads the league with 15 sacks – matching his output in 2018, while sitting three shy of his career-best established in 2013. This is his second nod as a Shaw Top Performer of the Month after being recognized in July, in addition to a weekly honour in Week 6.
