SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 10

Bell, Harris and Medlock named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 16, 2016) – Shakir Bell, Andrew Harris and Justin Medlock were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 10 of the CFL’s 2016 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | Shakir Bell | Edmonton Eskimos

In his first game of the 2016 season, running back Shakir Bell scored his first touchdown to help the Edmonton Eskimos fight back to win at home against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Bell racked up 170 yards from scrimmage in the 33-25 victory. The Indianapolis native sparked Edmonton’s second drive of the game, after receiving a handoff and turned it into a 42-yard gain. The gain, Edmonton’s longest running play of 2016, helped quarterback Mike Reilly find Derel Walker for a touchdown on the next play.

Later in the first quarter, Reilly found Bell with a 15-yard pass for another major to put Edmonton ahead 16-0. In the first half of the game, Bell racked up 84 yards on nine carries.

The Indiana State alum helped Edmonton find their momentum again in the fourth quarter with a 27-yard rush to help the home team advance and bring them close enough for Reilly to rush for a touchdown several plays later.

Bell has 18 rushes and 138 rushing yards on the season, with another 32 receiving yards and Friday’s touchdown.

RB | Andrew Harris | Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Andrew Harris scored a late pivotal touchdown to help the Bombers extend their winning streak to four games after defeating the Montreal Alouettes 32-18.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native rushed the ball on 16 occasions for 70 yards (4.4 yards per carry) while adding five receptions for 61 yards to give him 131 yards from scrimmage.

Harris scored his fourth rushing touchdown of the season with just over two minutes to play in the game from 19 yards out to give the Bombers a 28-18 lead and seal the road victory.

Through the halfway point of the season, Harris leads the league with 575 rushing yards, has added 351 receiving yards and is second in the league in yards from scrimmage with 926 yards.

K/P| Justin Medlock | Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Justin Medlock went a perfect six for six on field goals to extend his personal streak of 20 consecutive field goals in the Bombers fourth-straight road victory.

In Montreal, Medlock connected on field goals from 13, 20, 36, 39, 40 and 47 yards out and added two converts to total 20 points accumulated in the game.

The former UCLA Bruin punted the ball three times for 91 yards (30.3 yards per punt) and had six kickoffs for 385 yards (64.2 yards per kickoff).

This season, Medlock is 27 for 31 kicking field goals (87.1%), including a perfect 17 for 17 from inside 40 yards and has an average of 43.6 yards per punt in 2016.
