SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 10

Daniels, Lewis and Spencer named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 29, 2017) – DaVaris Daniels, Nik Lewis and Diontae Spencer were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 10 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

REC | DAVARIS DANIELS | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

DaVaris Daniels had a statement game in the Calgary Stampeders’ win over the Toronto Argonauts at McMahon Stadium on Saturday, August 26th.

The Vernon Hills, Illinois native collected 114 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the 23-7 victory, doubling his touchdown count for the season.

Daniels caught a 21-yard pass from quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell just over the line in the end zone in the second quarter. The Notre Dame alum found the mark again in the third quarter on a 38-yard toss to push the Stamps’ lead to 16-7 after Paredes’ convert.

Daniels has four touchdowns and 492 yards on 32 receptions in 2017. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 2016 after a standout first year in which he collected nine touchdowns and 885 receiving yards.

REC | NIK LEWIS | MONTREAL ALOUETTES

On Thursday August 24th against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, receiver Nik Lewis set a new CFL all-time record for career receptions, passing the previous record of 1,029 set by new member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame Geroy Simon.

Lewis caught his 1,030th reception to break the record on a six-yard pass from quarterback Darian Durant during the fourth quarter on a crucial third-down conversion. He added another to set the new record at 1,031.

The 14-year CFL veteran collected 88 receiving yards and 47 yards after carry on 11 targets in Thursday’s game.

Lewis has passed the season century mark in receptions twice in his career, including a career-high of 102 in 2016. He has never had fewer than 67 catches in a full season, with a career average of close to five receptions per game. He has 491 receiving yards, 53 receptions, and one touchdown in 2017.

REC | DIONTAE SPENCER | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

Diontae Spencer made the highlight reel on the way to the Ottawa REDBLACKS’ 31-24 victory over the BC Lions.

A last-minute field goal attempt by the Lions in the first half went wide, and Spencer sprinted out of the end zone, carrying the ball 90 yards downfield to set up a Brett Maher field goal. Spencer collected 61 receiving yards and 13 rushing yards on 12 targets.

In his third year in the CFL, the former McNeese State Cowboy has 474 punt return yards, 304 kickoff return yards, 418 receiving yards, 99 missed field goal returns, 12 rushing yards and two touchdowns in 10 games played.
