SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 11

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 11

Medlock, Elimimian and McDuffie named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (September 7, 2016) – Justin Medlock, Solomon Elimimian and Quincy McDuffie were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 11 of the CFL’s 2016 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

K/P | Justin Medlock | Winnipeg Blue Bombers

In Winnipeg’s first Labour Day victory since 2004, Justin Medlock proved a clincher with several key kicks, including the game-winner as time expired.

Medlock opened the scoring with the first of his field goals from 44 yards out. In the first quarter alone, he secured two more field goals (for 25 and 29 yards, respectively) and a 1-point convert for 32 yards.

Later in the game, as both teams duelled for the prestigious Mark’s Labour Day Weekend victory, Medlock nailed a 42-yard field goal as time expired, securing the road win for Winnipeg.

Medlock completed seven of eight field goal attempts, the lone miss ending a streak of 22 straight completions – a club record. This is Medlock’s second week in a row as a Shaw Top Performer. This also marks the second consecutive week that two Blue Bomber players rank among the Top Performers.

LB | Solomon Elimimian | BC Lions

Solomon Elimimian collected an astonishing 14 defensive tackles in the BC Lions’ 16-13 road win over the Toronto Argonauts, setting a Lions team record in the process.

Elimimian, who was the 2010 season’s Most Outstanding Rookie and the Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2014, also secured a quarterback sack against pivot Ricky Ray.

In addition to gaining nine yards, Elimimian completed his record-breaking night with an interception on Ray that set up the Lions for a Richie Leone field goal to give BC their first lead of the evening.

The former Hawaii Warrior is currently second in the league for defensive tackles with 70 on the season; he also holds five quarterback sacks and a forced fumble.

WR | Quincy McDuffie | Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Quincy McDuffie’s early touchdown helped secure the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 28-25 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Mosaic Stadium.

Midway through the first frame, McDuffie grabbed the first major of the game as he dropped an opponent, sprinted into open space to grab a Matt Nichols toss, and ran the length of the field for an 82-yard touchdown.

The former UFC Knight reeled in 153 yards in seven receptions on nine targets in the game.

McDuffie, a native of Orlando, Florida, is in his first season with Winnipeg. He currently holds 186 receiving yards on 13 receptions.
