SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 11

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 11

Glenn, Singleton and Richardson named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (September 6th, 2017) – Kevin Glenn, Alex Singleton and Shaquille Richardson were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 11 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | KEVIN GLENN | SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

Kevin Glenn threw for 386 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday to give Saskatchewan a 38-24 win on Mark’s Labour Day Weekend. Glenn led his team to an explosive start, scoring 34 points in the first half to put them in a strong position to win.

On just the second Saskatchewan drive of the game, Glenn threw a 53-yard pass to Naaman Roosevelt for a touchdown. After a 63-yard Nic Demski return placed the Roughriders nine yards from the end zone, two plays later, Glenn found Rob Bagg for a touchdown to end the first quarter with a 24-3 lead after Tyler Crapigna’s successful convert.

Midway through the second quarter, Glenn’s 50-yard pass to Bakari Grant led to his 17-yard touchdown pass to Duron Carter on the following play. Just a few minutes later, Glenn handed the ball off to Cameron Marshall, who rushed it 48 yards for another major.

The CFL veteran, in his 17th season, completed 72.2% of his pass attempts on Sunday, going 26-for-36.

Glenn has 2,730 passing yards and 19 touchdowns in 2017, and was previously named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week in Week 8.

LB | ALEX SINGLETON | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Alex Singleton collected a career-high 13 defensive tackles in the Stampeders’ 39-18 win over Edmonton in their Labour Day Classic victory. The win was Calgary’s sixth in a row and their 14th consecutive home win dating back to 2016.

With first place in the CFL on the line for the rival West Division teams, Singleton collected a quarterback sack when he took down Mike Reilly in the fourth quarter for a two-yard loss that stopped Edmonton from their attempted two-point convert.

The 13 tackles recorded by Singleton were only three away from tying the single-game record held by Reggie Hunt.

In just his second year in the CFL, Singleton is second in the league with 69 defensive tackles (including two quarterback sacks), one interception, and one special teams tackle.

DB | SHAQUILLE RICHARDSON | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Shaquille Richardson was a force all over the field on Labour Day, racking up three defensive tackles, two interceptions, a fumble return, a special teams tackle, and two quarterback pressures against Edmonton to give the Stampeders a 39-18 victory.

The former Arizona Wildcat recovered a Cory Watson fumble midway through the first quarter. The recovery started a Stampeders drive that led to a Jerome Messam touchdown to give Calgary an 11-0 lead after the convert.

In the second quarter, Richardson pressured Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly into throwing the ball away. Richardson proved a thorn in Reilly’s side throughout the game, intercepting a pass at the top of the third quarter and returning it for 39 yards and turning in another QB pressure on Edmonton’s next drive.

Richardson claimed his second interception of the game later in the third frame, returning it nine yards.

The Compton, California native has 25 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, three interceptions and one touchdown in his sophomore year in the CFL.
