SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 11
Calgary sweeps as Mitchell, Jorden and Davis named Shaw CFL Top Performers
TORONTO (August 28th, 2018) – Bo Levi Mitchell, Kamar Jorden and Ja’Gared Davis were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 11 of the CFL’s 2018 season.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
QB | BO LEVI MITCHELL | CALGARY STAMPEDERS
Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell steered the Calgary Stampeders to their eighth win this season with a 39-26 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday.
Mitchell recorded 452 passing yards, passing the 400-yard single-game mark for the first time in his career. He completed 25 of 42 passes and scored three touchdowns.
The Calgary pivot’s first touchdown came in the second quarter, a 20-yard throw to DaVaris Daniels to cap off a 10-play drive.
Two huge passes back-to-back paid off for Mitchell: first a 52-yard bomb to Kamar Jorden, followed by a 25-yard toss to Marken Michel for a touchdown to put the Stampeders ahead.
The Stamps got to work in the final minutes of the game, with Mitchell lobbing a huge 68-yard pass to Jorden for another major. Mitchell helped Calgary collect 511 net yards on offence in the contest.
Mitchell has 2,614 yards, 20 touchdowns and a 110.8 efficiency rating. He was previously named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 2.
REC | KAMAR JORDEN | CALGARY STAMPEDERS
Receiver Kamar Jorden had a record-setting night on Saturday as his big catches propelled the Stamps to a home win.
Jorden set the Stampeder single-game record for most receiving yards with his haul of 249, beating the previous record of 237. He had 10 receptions, including three for 30+ yards, and a touchdown in Saturday’s game.
The Bowling Green alum snagged a huge 52-yard pass in the third quarter, earning huge ground to set up teammates Bo Levi Mitchell and Marken Michel for a touchdown on the following play.
Jorden’s biggest catch of the night came on his touchdown, a 68-yard rocket. He evaded three defenders to carry 51 yards after the catch into the endzone.
The native of Darby, Pennsylvania is second in the CFL in receiving yards, with 895 to his name. He has six touchdowns and 52 receptions in nine games played.
Jordan was also a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 8.
DL | JA’GARED DAVIS | CALGARY STAMPEDERS
Defensive linemen Ja’Gared Davis had a big night as he assisted the Stampeders in a decisive win.
Davis had three defensive tackles, two interceptions and a touchdown in Saturday’s game.
The Crockett, Texas native tackled Andrew Harris twice to stall Winnipeg runs, and pounced on Chris Streveler during an attempted quarterback sneak.
The former Southern Methodist Mustang flipped up a Matt Nichols pass, knocking it away from the Blue Bombers and securing the ball in the second quarter.
In the final frame, Davis grabbed another Matt Nichols pass out of the air before running it 35 yards for a touchdown.
In his eight games this year, Davis has 39 defensive tackles including three sacks, as well as two interceptions, one forced fumble and one touchdown.
