SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 12

Johnson, Heath and Daniels named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (September 13, 2016) – Jeremiah Johnson, T.J. Heath and DaVaris Daniels were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 11 of the CFL’s 2016 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | Jeremiah Johnson | BC Lions

In Jeremiah Johnson’s first game since Week 9 due to injury, he was able to run wild against the Montreal Alouettes in the Lions’ 38-27 victory, extending their win streak to three games.

Johnson had a season-high 16 carries for 159 yards (9.9 yards per carry) and scored three touchdowns to bring his season total to six.

The native of Los Angeles, California scored two touchdowns in the first half, his first coming late in the first quarter from 12 yards out to give the Lions a 14-3 lead after the successful convert. On their next possession, Johnson scored his second for a yard out early in the second quarter to extend the Lions’ lead to 21-3.

The former Oregon Duck scored his this third and final major of the game in the fourth quarter from 26 yards out to give the Lions a 37-19 advantage.

In Johnson’s fourth season in the CFL, he has tallied 468 rushing yards on 76 rushes (6.2 yards per carry) and has rushed for six touchdowns, the second most in the league.

Johnson was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer last season in Week 12.

CB | T.J. Heath | Toronto Argonauts

Heath had a productive performance in his final game as a Toronto Argonaut on Sunday, collecting seven tackles and two interceptions on the way to a 33-21 Toronto victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The former Jacksonville State University Gamecock pounced on a great opportunity in the first half, snagging a knockdown from a Zach Collaros pass to Terrence Toliver and returning the interception to the Hamilton 40-yard line.

Heath got his second interception of the night with just five minutes left in the game, rolling into Collaros’ passing line and intercepting the catch in the endzone.

This is the Alexandria, Alabama native’s first season in the CFL. In 10 games played he is tied for first in the league with five interceptions. He also has 37 defensive tackles and three special teams tackles.

REC | DaVaris Daniels | Calgary Stampeders

First-year receiver DaVaris Daniels set new career-highs in the Stampeders’ thrilling 34-28 overtime victory on the road over the Edmonton Eskimos.

The Notre Dame standout recorded a career-high six receptions (on six targets) for a personal best. He also racked up 113 yards and scored two touchdowns to help Calgary sweep the home-and-home series with Edmonton.

Daniels scored both of his touchdowns in the second half. His first arrived with just over three minutes left in the third quarter as he snagged a pass from 30 yards out to cut into Edmonton’s lead, 20-12.

The Vernon Hills, Illinois native scored his second major four minutes into the fourth, this time from 27 yards to make the score 20-20 following Rene Paredes’ convert. Not finished yet, Daniels also caught an 11-yard two-point convert in OT.

Through his first four games in the CFL, Daniels has accumulated 19 receptions for 344 yards and three touchdown receptions.
