SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 13

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 13

Reilly, Williams and Banks named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (September 11th, 2018) – Mike Reilly, D’haquille “Duke” Williams and Brandon Banks were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 13 of the CFL’s 2018 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | MIKE REILLY | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Mike Reilly led his team to an exciting finish in the Battle of Alberta on Saturday night, coming out on top in a 48-42 contest against the Calgary Stampeders.

Reilly scored six touchdowns in the contest: three through the air and three on the ground. He recorded 397 passing yards, going 30-for-44, and added another 43 rushing yards.

On Edmonton’s opening drive, Reilly completed passes for 35 and 42 yards before plunging over the line himself for a two-yard QB sneak touchdown to open the scoring. Just a few minutes later, he made a 29-yard bomb to Duke Williams to make the score 14-7 after the successful convert.

The first quarter scoring continued, with Reilly throwing a four-yard ball to Vidal Hazelton who ran it in over the line for a touchdown.

Reilly got another one of his own in the second quarter, capping off a 12-play, 107-yard drive with a one-yard dive for the major. He ran in yet another QB sneak in the third frame to solidify Edmonton’s lead.

Kenny Stafford was the recipient of a six-yard touchdown pass from Reilly on Edmonton’s next drive, giving the Kennewick, WA native his sixth major of the evening.

Reilly sits atop the league in passing yards with 3,943, completions with 283 and touchdowns with 26. He was a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Weeks 1, 7, and 10 as well as a Player of the Month in June and August.

REC | D’HAQUILLE “DUKE” WILLIAMS | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Receiver Duke Williams had a standout game against the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, helping secure a home win for Edmonton.

Williams scored a touchdown and set a new career single-game high water mark with 172 receiving yards.

The former Auburn Tiger made two catches of 30+ yards, including his opening 42-yard reception.

Later in the first quarter, Williams made a big leaping 29-yard catch in the endzone for a touchdown. His second big play was a 32-yard pass play in the second quarter.

Williams is first in the league in receiving yards with 1,235 and third in receptions with 64. He leads all receivers with nine touchdowns and was previously named a Shaw Top Performer of the Week in Week 5 as well as Player of the Month in both June and July.

REC | BRANDON BANKS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Receiver Brandon Banks had a big night for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, helping them to their third consecutive win.

Banks registered 153 receiving yards, scoring two touchdowns on six receptions.

The second quarter gave him room to shine as Banks caught a 15-yard pass to start a drive that culminated with a 26-yard pass from quarterback Jeremiah Masoli for a touchdown.

He got another major in the third frame on a huge 78-yard play, running the ball 54 yards after the catch for his second touchdown of the game.

Banks is second in the league with 1,033 receiving yards, securing his second straight season of 1000+ yards. He has 69 receptions – good for second league-wide – and seven touchdowns. He was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 12.
