SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 13

Chris Streveler, John Bowman and Willie Jefferson named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (September 10, 2019) – Chris Streveler, John Bowman and Willie Jefferson were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 13 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFGL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Ford of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | CHRIS STREVELER | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Chris Streveler led the way in the Blue Bombers’ 35-10 victory over Saskatchewan in the annual Banjo Bowl. He completed 15-of-21 passes (71.4%) for 186 yards and two touchdown passes, while also adding 70 rushing yards on 11 carries (6.4 yards per carry) and scored two majors.

Winnipeg set the tone on its first possession with Streveler orchestrating a 15-play, 100-yard drive which he capped off with a 1-yard plunge that took 8:28 off the clock.

The University of South Dakota alum connected with Daniel Petermann at the back of the endzone for a 5-yard touchdown pass to increase the home side’s lead to 13-3. With 12 seconds left in the first half, Streveler scored his ninth rushing touchdown of the season to extend the Bombers’ advantage to 27-3. He completed his impressive performance on Winnipeg’s first drive of the second half, finding Johnny Augustine for a 58-yard score.

The Crystal Lake, Ill., native has now tallied 13 touchdowns this season (4 pass, 9 rush).

DL | JOHN BOWMAN | MONTREAL ALOUETTES

Bowman notched five tackles, including two sacks, for a loss of 15 yards and forced a fumble on Friday night to help the Alouettes beat the BC Lions for the first time since 2015.

Nine plays into the game, Bowman recorded his first sack, bringing down Mike Reilly for a seven-yard loss which resulted in the Lions punting the ball. With under 30 seconds left in the game and BC threatening, Bowman wrapped up Reilly for an eight-yard loss.

His two sacks brought his career total to 130 – one shy of passing Vince Goldsmith for sixth all-time.

This season, the 14-year vet has 30 tackles, four sacks and a forced fumble.

DL | WILLIE JEFFERSON | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Willie Jefferson recorded three tackles, two sacks and added a force fumble as the Winnipeg defence held Saskatchewan to a season-low 10 points to split the back-to-back series.

Jefferson extended his streak of consecutive games with a sack to five and has seven within that stretch.

After Winnipeg went up 7-0 on the game’s first drive, Jefferson took down Cody Fajardo on a second-and-eleven play, resulting in a quick two-and-out for the Roughriders.

In the second quarter, Jefferson jarred the ball loose from Fajardo before Anthony Gaitor recovered it. The turnover led to a touchdown which gave the Bombers a 27-3 lead.

Jefferson now has 11 sacks – a new career-high, 17 tackles, six forced fumbles and an interception. This is the Beaumont, Texas, native’s second Weekly honour (Week 11) in addition to being named a Shaw Top Performer of the Month in August.
