SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 14

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 14

Wilder Jr., Adams and Davis named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (September 26th, 2017) – James Wilder Jr., Darvin Adams and Ja’Gared Davis were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 14 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | JAMES WILDER JR. | TORONTO ARGONAUTS

Running back James Wilder Jr. had another big week for the Toronto Argonauts in their 33-19 victory over the Montreal Alouettes. Wilder had 141 rushing yards, 77 receiving yards, and a touchdown to help the Argos cement first place in the East and take the season series.

A week after he turned in the fourth-highest single-game rushing yards total in Argonauts franchise history, Wilder collected 218 total yards against the Alouettes for a staggering 475 cumulative yards in the past two games alone.

The Florida State alum ran three times in a row on Toronto’s first drive of the game to put kicker Lirim Hajrullahu in position to open the scoring. The Tampa, FL native caught a 45-yard pass from Ricky Ray midway through the second quarter.

Wilder’s touchdown came towards the end of the third quarter, an 85-yard run for the score and the record for the longest run of the season.

This is Wilder’s second week in a row atop the Shaw CFL Top Performers. He has rushed for 503 yards and two touchdowns in 2017, with an additional 236 receiving yards.

WR | DARVIN ADAMS | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Wide receiver Darvin Adams assisted the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to a 29-9 win over the Ottawa REDBLACKS at Investors Group Field with a season-high 195 receiving yards and a touchdown on Friday, September 22nd.

Adams’ seven catches came at key times to earn first downs for the Blue Bombers, with a 14-yard catch in the opening drive, and an 18-yard reception later in the first quarter to set up a Justin Medlock field goal.

He opened the second quarter with another long pass, a 37-yard strike from Matt Nichols. Nichols also tossed a 75-yard pass to Adams, who returned it 46 yards after the catch for a touchdown in the fourth frame.

The Canton, MS native is having a career year in his fifth season in the CFL, having already passed or matched his previous season totals just 14 weeks into 2017.

The Auburn product has 961 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 65 receptions in 2017.

DL | JA’GARED DAVIS | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Calgary defensive lineman Ja’Gared Davis helped the Stampeders to their ninth win a row with a strong defensive performance against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The former Southern Methodist Mustang had three sacks in the contest, including one to force a fumble late in the fourth quarter that secured Calgary’s win.

Davis laid a sack on quarterback Kevin Glenn on Saskatchewan’s opening drive for a team loss of six yards. He pounced again on the opening drive of the third quarter for a team loss of seven yards to halt the Roughriders’ drive.

His third sack of the game came in the final minute of the game on Brandon Bridge for a team loss of 13 yards as Davis both forced a fumble and recovered it. In his second year in the CFL, Davis has been a large part of a defensive squad that helped Calgary clinch their playoff spot in Week 14 and break a league record for longest divisional winning streak.

The Crockett, Texas native has 21 defensive tackles including seven sacks.
