SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 14

Powell, Orange and Begelton named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (September 18th, 2018) – William Powell, Anthony Orange and Reggie Begelton were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 14 of the CFL’s 2018 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | WILLIAM POWELL | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

William Powell helped the Ottawa REDBLACKS to a statement win on the road over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday evening.

Powell racked up a season-high 148 rushing yards on 18 carries in the contest, scoring two touchdowns. He also registered seven receiving yards.

Just a few minutes into the game, Powell scored his first touchdown, muscling through several Saskatchewan players before running the ball 19 yards into the end zone. In the second frame, he ran three yards for a successful two-point convert on teammate RJ Harris’ touchdown.

The former Kansas State Wildcat made another big play late in the game, shaking off a tackle on a 69-yard run that culminated in a fourth-quarter touchdown to extend Ottawa`s lead.

Powell leads the league with 994 rushing yards and 185 carries. He has six rushing touchdowns as well as one receiving. He’s on pace for a career year, and his second consecutive 1000+ rushing yard season, in his third season in the CFL.

DB | ANTHONY ORANGE | BC LIONS

Defensive back Anthony Orange had a standout game against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday night on the way to a win for the BC Lions.

Orange contributed two interceptions to BC’s victory at Percival Molson Stadium, running one of them 54 yards for a touchdown. He also registered two defensive tackles.

The Bakersfield, California native intercepted an Antonio Pipkin pass attempt in the second quarter, returning it four yards and setting up the BC Lions for a field goal a few plays later.

Orange’s second interception of the game came in the final frame when he snagged another pass from Pipkin, returning it 54 yards for the major.

The Fresno State alum has 35 defensive tackles, four interceptions and one touchdown this season.

REC | REGGIE BEGELTON | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

The Calgary Stampeders triumphed over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday with assistance from second-year receiver Reggie Begelton.

The native of Beaumont, Texas recorded a 13-yard catch as part of a six-play drive that ended in a touchdown for Calgary. In another drive, Begelton notched catches for 18 and 17 yards respectively.

The touchdown for Begelton came in the third quarter, a huge catch followed by a deep run for a 99-yard play that secured the Stampeders’ lead.

Begelton followed up his major with a successful two-point convert on a three-yard pass from QB Bo Levi Mitchell.
