SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 14

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 14

Tre Roberson, Eric Rogers and William Powell named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (September 17, 2019) – Tre Roberson, Eric Rogers and William Powell were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 14 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Ford of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

DB | TRE ROBERSON | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Tre Roberson anchored Calgary’s defensive effort with five tackles, an interception and a game-saving field goal block to help the Stampeders defeat Hamilton at McMahon Stadium for a 15th consecutive game.

The product of Illinois State recorded his seventh interception of the season after jumping a Brandon Banks route with the Tiger-Cats driving into Stampeders territory. Roberson is now one interception behind Winston Rose for the league-lead.

In the game’s final moments with Calgary clinging to a 19-18 lead, the Indianapolis, Ind., native blocked a potential go-ahead field goal from 42 yards out to preserve the victory for the home side.

This season, Roberson has 36 tackles, seven interceptions and two touchdowns for the Stampeders. He was also recognized as a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 4.

WR | ERIC ROGERS | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Eric Rogers registered eight catches for 129 yards and a touchdown in Calgary’s 19-18 win on Saturday afternoon.

With less than seven minutes remaining in the contest, Bo Levi Mitchell connected with Rogers from 15 yards out to knot the game at 18s, erasing a 17-6 halftime deficit. The ensuing Rene Paredes convert gave the Stampeders their first lead of the day.

Rogers led Calgary in targets (11) and registered four second down conversion receptions in the game.

This season, Rogers leads all receivers with eight touchdown receptions. He is seventh in receptions (57) and tenth in receiving yards (678) despite sitting ninth in targets. This is the Glendora, Calif., native’s second weekly honour with the first coming in Week 3.

RB | WILLIAM POWELL | SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

William Powell accumulated 124 yards from scrimmage in the Roughriders’ thrilling 27-25 victory over Montreal at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday night.

Powell ran the ball on 15 occasions for 94 yards (6.3 yards per carry) and a major, while adding three receptions for 30 yards and a receiving touchdown.

In the second quarter, the Duncanville, Texas, native took a short pass from Cody Fajardo before breaking several tackles and diving into the endzone. The touchdown cut the Alouettes’ lead to 9-6. Powell’s rushing major from five yards out came in the fourth quarter and gave the Roughriders a 24-18 advantage, setting up a thrilling back-and-forth finish, capped by Brett Lauther’s late-game heroics.

In the 2019 campaign, Powell has rushed for 751 yards (5.0 yards per carry), added 126 receiving yards and scored 11 touchdowns (10 rush, 1 receiving). Powell was also named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 7.
