Burris, Jennings and Brooks named Shaw CFL Top Performers
TORONTO – Henry Burris, Jonathon Jennings, and Mic’hael Brooks were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 15 of the CFL’s 2015 season.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
QB | Henry Burris | Ottawa REDBLACKS
Ottawa REDBLACKS quarterback Henry Burris set a new CFL record for pass completions in a single game on Thursday night, when he threw 45 of 53 for 504 yards with zero interceptions to beat the Montreal Alouettes 39-17.
Burris eclipsed the previous record of 44 set by Anthony Calvillo in 2008; he also attained a 84.9 completion percentage, the highest in CFL history for a player attempting more than 40 passes in a single game.
Burris completed all 7 of his opening passes in a 73-yard drive ahead of the game’s opening score, a 1-yard touchdown dive of his own. He later connected with Chris Williams for an 18-yard touchdown and gave the REDBLACKS enough room for a field goal to send them into the second half with a 23-3 lead and over 300 yards of his own.
The win was Burris’ 110th in the league, putting him in fourth place among CFL quarterbacks past and present. His 351 thrown touchdowns has him third of all-time in hte CFL, and he currently leads the 2015 passing yards crop with 4,115 yards.

QB | Jonathon Jennings | BC Lions
B.C Lions quarterback Jonathon Jennings dazzled as he scored five total touchdowns in the Lions’ 46-20 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday night in Vancouver.
Under centre, Jennings completed 19 of 25 attempts (76 percent) for a career-high 364 yards and four touchdown passes to three different receivers.
Jennings opened the scoring in the game on the Lions’ first drive when he found Shawn Gore in the front corner of the end zone for the 10-yard major. His second touchdown pass came just before the end of the half where he found Ryan Burnham for the score to give the Lions a 19-5.
In the second half he threw a pair of touchdown to Emmanuel Arceneaux: one on a 82-yard catch and run and another from five yards out.
The Columbus, Ohio native and product of Saginaw Valley State also displayed his pass catching abilities.
Jennings owns several passing records at Saginaw Valley State including passing touchdowns (96), passing yards (10,710) and passes completed (799).
DL | Mic’hael Brooks | BC Lions
Defensive tackle for the B.C. Lions Mic’hael Brooks recorded two sacks and an interception to help the Lions prevail over the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders 46-20.
Brooks was able to get into the Roughriders’ backfield and sacked quarterback Kevin Glenn twice resulting in a total of 21 yards lost and helping stall both Riders drives.
In the third quarter the Durham, North Carolina native was able to corral a tipped pass and recorded his first career interception. The turnover had the Lions start on the 21-yard line which resulted with a Jennings touchdown on the very next play.
The 6’3” 275 pound defensive tackle has recorded 40 tackles and three sacks in his first season in the Canadian Football League.
Brooks played football collegiately at East Carolina University.
