SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 15
White, Elimimian and Reilly named Shaw CFL Top Performers
Tuesday, October 4, 2016 — TORONTO (October 4, 2016) – John White, Solomon Elimimian and Mike Reilly were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 15 of the CFL’s 2016 season.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
RB | John White | Edmonton Eskimos
Edmonton running back John White scored a pair of touchdowns in a crucial road victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night.
White notched his first 100+ yard rushing game of the season after rushing for 104 yards on 19 carries. The University of Utah product scored a pair of rushing touchdowns; his first occurred late in the first quarter when he punched it in from three yards out. His second touchdown came just before the half when he lunged and extended to hit the pylon and give Edmonton a 23-10 lead.
The Torrance, California native also showcased his versatility as a pass-catching running back: for a combined 64 yards White caught all seven targets, a career high.
In eleven games this season White has compiled 533 rushing yards on 119 rushes (4.5 yards per carry) and has added 51 receptions for 414 yards. White has scored six touchdowns this season, also a new career-high.
LB | Solomon Elimimian | BC Lions
BC Lions linebacker Solomon Elimimian was all over the field in the Lions’ 40-33 victory over the visiting Ottawa REDBLACKS on Saturday night.
The 2014 Most Outstanding Player recorded 13 tackles including a tackle for a loss of two yards on Mossis Madu during the fourth quarter.
The University of Hawaii alum notched his fourth game with 10 or more tackles – his third in his last four games.
With his 13 tackles in Week 15 Elimimian now leads the league with 100 tackles. This is his second season recording 100+ tackles.
Elimimian also has six sacks, a forced fumble and one interception this season.
QB | Mike Reilly | Edmonton Eskimos
Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer after helping win a big divisional game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night.
Reilly was very efficient, completing 32 of 38 passes (84.2%), passing for 355 yards and throwing a pair of touchdowns.
His first touchdown of the game went to CFL leading receiver Adarius Bowman. On the fifth play of a second quarter drive, Reilly found Bowman for a 15-yard touchdown grab to give Edmonton a 16-10 lead.
As Winnipeg mounted a comeback with two minutes left in the game, Reilly found Derel Walker on a short pass. Walker was able to elude the tackler and score on the 61-yard play to give Edmonton a 12-point lead.
This season Reilly leads the league in passing yards with 4,708. If he keeps his current pace he will eclipse the 6,000 passing yard mark, which has only been hit five times in CFL history.
Reilly is also second in the league with 23 touchdown passes.
