SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 17

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 17

Fogg, Green and Carter named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (October 17th, 2017) – Kevin Fogg, SJ Green and Duron Carter were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 17 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

DB | KEVIN FOGG | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Defensive back Kevin Fogg helped his team to a 26-20 win with a strong performance, collecting an interception and a key 88-yard punt return touchdown.

Fogg reeled in 127 punt return yards in the contest, in addition to two defensive tackles and a quarterback pressure.

The Raleigh, NC native opened the scoring just a few minutes into the game, stutter-stepping around opponents and running 88 yards up the side for a momentum-setting touchdown.

The second-year CFL player made a big difference in the game with a pivotal interception in the fourth quarter, snagging a deep Jonathon Jennings pass and returning it 31 yards to give the Blue Bombers another possession.

In only 12 games this season, Fogg has 16 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, and one interception in 2017.

WR | SJ GREEN | TORONTO ARGONAUTS

SJ Green turned in 159 receiving yards and a touchdown in the Toronto Argonauts’ last-minute loss in Edmonton.

Green had a game-high 13 catches, including a string of three in a row in the second quarter. His second-quarter 14-yard pass gave him a new single-season career high in receiving yards, surpassing his 2013 total of 1,197. Later in the quarter, he caught a three-yard Ricky Ray pass for a successful two-point convert to keep the Argos in the game.

Green’s touchdown came in the fourth quarter after a 32-yard catch. Ray threw a 24-yard pass down the middle and Green ran it eight yards before diving over the line for the score.

On the next play, Green made his second crucial successful two-point convert, tying the game with a leap from the back of the end zone.

The 11-year veteran has 95 catches for 1,337 yards – both career highs, and good for third league-wide in receiving yards and first overall in receptions – and nine touchdowns. He was previously named a Shaw Top Performer in Weeks 1, 3, and 9.

WR | DURON CARTER | SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

Roughriders receiver Duron Carter had a big game in Saskatchewan’s close loss to the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Friday night, with 231 yards on 11 receptions for an average 21 yards per reception.

The number was a career high in receiving yards for the Fort Lauderdale native, who demonstrated his ability to make big plays and stay open for quarterback Kevin Glenn all game.

Carter made several big catches to put his team in scoring position, including passes for 18 and 38 yards in the second quarter and third-frame catches for 50 and 45 yards. The fourth quarter brought an additional 20-yard catch.

Carter was previously a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 6. In 2017 he has 1,037 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 72 receptions – just three from tying his career best (75).
