SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 17

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 17

Bryan Burnham, Shaq Evans and Mike Reilly named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (October 8, 2019) – Bryan Burnham, Shaq Evans and Mike Reilly were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 17 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges comprised of former CFL players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, as well as, Pierre Vercheval of RDS, who independently send their selections to the CFL head office.

WR | BRYAN BURNHAM | BC LIONS

Bryan Burnham’s career-high of three touchdowns led the way as BC claimed a fourth straight victory – a decisive 55-8 win over Toronto.

On the Lions’ second possession of the game, Mike Reilly connected with Burnham across the middle to cushion the home team’s lead to 9-0. His second touchdown grab came minutes later. While streaking down the sideline and in double-coverage, the Tulsa product stretched out to make a highlight reel catch.

On a similar play late in the third quarter, Reilly again found Burnham, who briefly juggled the ball before coming down with it for the 31-yard major. The native of Moorestown, N.J., went on to total eight catches for 145 yards.

Burnham now leads the league with 1,300 receiving yards and has topped the 1,000+ yard mark for a fourth consecutive year; he is 92-yards shy of his career-high, established in 2016. He has already set a new personal-best with 88 receptions and is tied with his career mark of nine touchdowns.

WR | SHAQ EVANS | SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

Shaq Evans hauled in seven receptions for a career-high 193 yards, while adding a touchdown, as the Roughriders moved into sole-possession of first-place in the West Division through 17 Weeks.

Early in the second half, Evans’ 49-yard juggling catch down the sideline led to a Brett Lauther field goal to extend Saskatchewan’s advantage to 11-3. With time winding down in the game, Roughriders pivot Cody Fajardo found Evans to seal the victory. The Inglewood, Calif., native made the short completion before weaving through the defence and accumulating 54 yards after the catch for the 61-yard major.

The second-year receiver finished the day with three 30+ yard receptions and a second down conversion as Saskatchewan claimed the season series against Winnipeg.

Evans has tallied 60 receptions this season and has eclipsed the 1,000+ yard mark for the first time in his career (1,096). This is his second selection as a Shaw Top Performer of the Week after receiving a nod in Week 6.

QB | MIKE REILLY | BC LIONS

For the first time in his career, Mike Reilly threw five touchdowns as BC kept its slim playoff hopes alive in a victory over the visiting Argonauts.

Reilly found Bryan Burnham twice in the first quarter as the Lions raced out to a 17-0 advantage. In the second half, he led the Lions on a 10-play drive, capped by Shaq Johnson’s impressive leaping grab in the endzone. The ensuing convert extended the lead to 41-0 and marked BC’s highest point total of the year. Moments later, Reilly connected with Burnham again for his fourth passing major – a feat he has accomplished on three occasions in his career and most-recently in July of 2018.

The native of Kennewick, Wash., spotted Duron Carter for a 25-yard strike in the final frame to set a new personal best and complete his impressive performance. Reilly finished with 276 yards through the air on 21-of-27 passing.

Reilly currently tops the CFL in passing yards (3,891) and is tied alongside McLeod Bethel-Thompson for the league-lead in passing TDs (20).
