SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 18

S.J. Green, Andrew Harris and Marcus Sayles named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (October 15, 2019) – S.J. Green, Andrew Harris and Marcus Sayles were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 18 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges comprised of former CFL players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, as well as, Pierre Vercheval of RDS, who independently send their selections to the CFL head office.

WR | S.J. GREEN | TORONTO ARGONAUTS

S.J. Green recorded a season-high 170 receiving yards to surpass 10,000 in his career as the Argonauts claimed a 28-21 victory over Ottawa at BMO Field.

Entering the game, Green needed 90 yards to become the 18th player in CFL history to reach milestone. The Fort Worth, Texas, native added his name to the league's record books late in the first half with a 19-yard reception.

Green finished the day with a game-high 10 catches, including the 700th of his career and four second down conversions, with his longest coming in the third quarter for 42 yards.

Now in his 13th season, Green has 71 receptions for 897 yards and three touchdowns.

RB | ANDREW HARRIS | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Andrew Harris had 24 carries for a season-high 166 yards and a touchdown to send the Blue Bombers to their 10th victory of 2019 – a 35-24 decision over Montreal.

On the opening drive of the game, Harris rushed the ball three times for 26 yards before scoring on a 16-yard run to give the home side an early lead. The Winnipeg native went on to record six rushes of 10-or-more yards, including a 21-yard effort on the day.

This season, Harris leads the league with 1,261 rushing yards (averaging 6.3 yards per carry), while adding 61 receptions for 487 yards. He has scored eight touchdowns on the year (4 rush, 4 pass). This is the fourth time he has been named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in 2019, following selections in Weeks 1, 5 and 15.

DB | MARCUS SAYLES | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Marcus Sayles recorded the first multiple-interception game of his career to help lead the Blue Bombers’ defence in the team’s continued chase for first in the West Division. Sayles ended the contest with three tackles, a tackle for a loss, two interceptions and a pass knockdown.

The University of West Georgia product’s first interception came in the third quarter. Holding a narrow 21-17 lead, Winston Rose tipped Vernon Adams Jr.’s throw to Eugene Lewis and Sayles grabbed the ball for the turnover, leading to a Justin Medlock field goal to extend the advantage.

With time winding down in the game, the native of Alpharetta, Ga., notched his second interception on the day to end a promising drive by the Alouettes.

With three interceptions this season, Sayles has matched his output from last year’s rookie campaign. He also tallied his first career touchdown earlier this season.
