SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 19
Elimimian, Reed and Madu named Shaw CFL Top Performers
TORONTO (November 1, 2016) – Solomon Elimimian, Taylor Reed and Mossis Madu Jr. were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 19 of the CFL’s 2016 season.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
LB | Solomon Elimimian | BC Lions
In the final game at Mosaic Stadium, BC’s Solomon Elimimian cracked double digits in tackles to help the Lions gain a crucial 24-6 victory over the Roughriders.
The 2014 Most Outstanding Player notched ten tackles and added a pair of sacks to put BC in the driver’s seat for clinching second place in the West Division entering the final week of the regular season.
Elimimian secured his first sack of the game on Saskatchewan’s first possession where he blitzed up the middle and was able to bring down Darian Durant for a nine-yard loss. He later then recorded his eighth sack of the season in the third quarter when he was able to wrapped up Jake Waters.
The product from the University of Hawaii tallied his fifth game this season with 10 or more tackles.
Elimimian leads the league with 128 tackles and has a career-high eight sacks this season. This is the third time this season he has been named a Shaw CFL Top Performer (Weeks 11 and 15).
LB | Taylor Reed | Ottawa REDBLACKS
In the first game of a home-and-home series with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Taylor Reed recorded a career-high 12 tackles en route to the REDBLACKS’ 23-10 victory at Investors Group Field.
The 12 tackles were the first time Reed reach double-digits in tackles in a single game. The win helped propel the REDBLACKS to clinch first place in the East Division for the second straight season.
The Southern Methodist product also notched two tackles for a loss in the game. The first came early in the second quarter after Andrew Harris made the reception but Reed was able to secure the tackle for a three-yards loss. His second came in third quarter when he was able to force a turnover bringing down Andrew Harris for a one-yard loss on a third-and-one play.
Since changing teams earlier this season he has accumulated 38 tackles and a sack with Ottawa brining his season totals to 79 tackles and three sacks (with Calgary and Ottawa).
RB | Mossis Madu Jr. | Ottawa REDBLACKS
Mossis Madu Jr. continued his excellent season with a performance against Winnipeg on Saturday to secure the East Division Final for the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
Madu collected 125 rushing yards on 21 carries, and an additional eight yards on a reception. He also added a touchdown to help the REDBLACKS defeat the Blue Bombers 23-10 on the road.
Saturday marks the third straight game where Madu has made 100+ yards from scrimmage; he opened the game with a 29-yard kickoff return on Ottawa’s first possession. He also got off to a hot start early in the second quarter, this time with a six-yard run before hopping the two remaining yards for a touchdown on the following play.
The native of Norman, Oklahoma has 490 rushing yards, 113 receiving yards and three touchdowns in six games in 2016.
