SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 19

Dane Evans, Reggie Begelton and Tyrell Sutton named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (October 22, 2019) – Dane Evans, Reggie Begelton and Tyrell Sutton were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 19 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges comprised of former CFL players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, as well as, Pierre Vercheval of RDS, who independently send their selections to the CFL head office.

QB | DANE EVANS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Dane Evans completed 32-of-41 passes (78%) for a career-high 452 yards and added a touchdown to lead the Tiger-Cats to a franchise record 13th victory in a single season.

Late in the third quarter, the Tulsa product found Brandon Banks near the sideline who raced 60 yards for the major to extend the Ticats’ lead to 25-12. Evans connected with nine different receivers en route to the victory. The performance marked his second game with 400+ passing yards this season and his sixth with 300-or-more.

This season, the native of Sanger, Texas, has accumulated 3,375 passing yards and 20 touchdowns (17 pass, 3 rush) while completing 71.4% of his passes.

Evans has been named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week on three occasions (Weeks 12, 16 and 19), in addition to a monthly nod in September.

WR | REGGIE BEGELTON | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Reggie Begelton’s hat trick of touchdowns powered the Stampeders to a 37-33 victory over Winnipeg as the team continued its pursuit of first place in the West Division.

Late in the first quarter, Bo Levi Mitchell connected with Begelton over the middle to put Calgary ahead 9-3. A 21-yard strike midway through the second trimmed a Winnipeg advantage to three (20-17) in the back-and-forth contest.

The Beaumont, Texas, native’s final score came with under 10 minutes remaining. Mitchell again found Begelton, who proceeded to avoid two tackles and score the eventual game-winning major.

Begelton’s breakout campaign has included new personal bests in receptions (91), receiving yards (1,286) and touchdowns (10). He was also named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 10.

RB | TYRELL SUTTON | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Tyrell Sutton notched 149 yards from scrimmage in Hamilton’s 33-12 victory over Ottawa.

The eight-year veteran rushed the ball 13 times for 85 yards (6.5 yards per carry), including six of 10+ yards. The product of Northwestern added four receptions for 64 yards, highlighted by an over-the-shoulder 40-yard effort early in the game.

Since making his season debut in Week 16, the Akron, Ohio, native has totaled 198 yards on the ground, as well as, 10 receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown.
