SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 3

Williams, Leggett and Bowman named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (July 12, 2016) – Chris Williams, Maurice Leggett, and Adarius Bowman were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 3 of the CFL’s 2016 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

REC | Chris Williams | Ottawa REDBLACKS

After a fantastic individual performance in the Ottawa REDBLACKS’ home opener against the Calgary Stampeders, receiver Chris Williams makes his third appearance as a Shaw CFL Top Performer in as many weeks.

The first of his three touchdowns came in the first 10 minutes of the game, a six-yard toss from quarterback Trevor Harris. In the second quarter, Williams added to his total with a 52-yard catch that pulled the REDBLACKS ahead once more.

In the fourth quarter, he once again gave the REDBLACKS a lead after Harris sent a five-yard pass his way. Williams finished the game with 130 receiving yards, 83 of those yards coming after the catch on 10 receptions. Williams’ stellar start to the season set a CFL record for most yards from scrimmage in three games to start a season with 493. The previous record was held by Winnipeg’s Alfred Jackson who had 483 through three weeks in 1994.

Though three games, the New Mexico State product leads the league in receiving yards (493), receptions (25), and touchdowns (six).

CB | Maurice Leggett | Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Maurice Leggett helped the Winnipeg Blue Bombers secure their first win of the season over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday night. Leggett had two interceptions during the contest, one of which he returned for his first career interception return for a touchdown after snagging a pass from Jeremiah Masoli and bringing it back 50-yards for the major.

The McKeesport, Pennsylvania native was a force on defense where he tallied five defensive tackles and a quarterback sack to round it out in the game.

With the two interceptions, Leggett now has eight career interceptions during his three seasons with the Blue Bombers.

The product of Valdosta State leads the league in interceptions with two and finished the 2015 season with 54 tackles, five quarterback sacks, four special teams tackles, and one interception.

SB | Adarius Bowman | Edmonton Eskimos

Adarius Bowman was a crucial part of the Edmonton Eskimos’ overtime comeback win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday night.

The Chattanooga, Tennessee native netted an impressive three touchdowns during the game, including a 56-yard catch from quarterback Mike Reilly to open the scoring for Edmonton in the second quarter.

His second touchdown came just a minute into the fourth quarter off a five-yard pass. Bowman followed it up with his third of the night for a 31-yard major.

The former Oklahoma State Cowboy finished the game with six receptions for 141 yards. It marked back-to-back games where Bowman finished with over 100 receiving yards.

Bowman led the league in receptions last year, and currently sits second in receiving yards (247) and touchdowns (three, tied with Vidal Hazelton).
