SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 3

Green, Elimimian and Butler named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (July 11th, 2017) – SJ Green, Solomon Elimimian and Victor Butler were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 3 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

WR | SJ GREEN | TORONTO ARGONAUTS

SJ Green continued his strong play with a career-best performance in the Toronto Argonauts’ victory over divisional rivals the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Saturday, July 8th. Green achieved a personal-best 210 yards and one touchdown on 10 catches to help the Argos come back and defeat the REDBLACKS 26-25.

The South Florida alum had his moment in the third quarter when he caught a 55-yard pass from quarterback Ricky Ray to give the Argonauts their first lead in the game, 13-12.

Green had several other big catches, including receptions for 28 and 23 yards in the second quarter, and a 38-yarder after his touchdown in the third frame.

The Brandon, Florida native has the second-highest number of yards in the CFL’s 2017 season with 367, and leads his team in receptions with 19.

This is Green’s second appearance as a Shaw Top Performer in the 2017 season, his first coming in Week 1.

LB | SOLOMON ELIMIMIAN | BC LIONS

Linebacker Solomon Elimimian was a defensive stalwart and a key part of the BC Lions’ second win of the season following their victory over the Montreal Alouettes, 23-16.

Elimimian recorded 15 tackles in the game, tying his own BC Lions team record for tackles in a single game and one shy of tying the league record held by Reggie Hunt.

The former Hawaii Rainbow Warrior and 2014 Most Outstanding Player, in his eighth season with the BC Lions, currently leads the CFL in tackles with 29 in three games.

Elimimian is the BC Lions’ all-time defensive leader. He has won four career awards in the CFL: Most Outstanding Rookie (2010), Most Outstanding Defensive Player (2014 and 2016), and Most Outstanding Player (2014).

DL | VICTOR BUTLER | TORONTO ARGONAUTS

In just his third game in the CFL, Victor Butler put forth a prominent pass rush that helped the Toronto Argonauts come from behind and defeat the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Saturday.

The Oregon State alum collected eight tackles including three quarterback sacks in the contest, continuing his successful rookie season with Toronto. His first sack came against Ottawa quarterback Trevor Harris in the first quarter. Butler came after Harris again in the second quarter, stalling a three-play drive by Ottawa. He stopped another drive in the fourth quarter with another sack on Harris, helping his team stymie the REDBACKS’ momentum. The trio of sacks accumulated a total loss of 25 yards.

Butler, in his first CFL season, currently leads the league in sacks with seven in his first three games.

The Los Angeles native is making an incredibly strong start to the season; he also has 13 defensive tackles and two forced fumbles in 2017.
