SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 4

Lulay, Jackson and Moore named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (July 18 2017) – Travis Lulay, Martese Jackson and Nick Moore were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 4 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | TRAVIS LULAY | BC LIONS

After watching Jonathan Jennings go down with a shoulder injury in the first minutes of the game, the 2011 Most Outstanding Player stepped in and led the BC Lions to their third straight road victory following the Lions’ 41-26 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

After coming off the bench, Lulay had a career game completing 29 of 36 passes (80.6%), 436 passing yards, throwing three touchdown passes and running for another.

The 436 passing yards was not only a personal best for the nine-year veteran, but a CFL record for most passing yards when coming off the bench.

Lulay threw his first touchdown pass to Shaquille Johnson from 11 yards out to cap off a five-play, 78-yard drive.

In the second quarter, Lulay called his own number and ran in from a yard out for his third rushing major of the season. On the next drive he found Nick Moore for a 10-yard score to give the Lions a 20-13 lead.

Late in the third quarter, Lulay slung the ball to Bryan Burnham who made a highlight-reel catch to extend the Lions’ lead to 30-16.

The product from Montana State and native of Aumsville, Oregon has two prior games where he eclipsed 400 passing yards.

RB | MARTESE JACKSON | TORONTO ARGONAUTS

In only his second game in the CFL, Argonauts return man Martese Jackson had one of the best games a returner has had in CFL history.

On his third return of the game in the first quarter, Jackson went on to return a Justin Medlock punt 78 yards for a touchdown to give the Argonauts a 9-7 lead. It was the Argonauts’ first punt return touchdown since Chad Owens did on September 26, 2015.

Nearly six minutes into the second quarter, Jackson returned a kickoff 84 yards to lead to a Lirim Harjrullahu field goal, making it 17-16 in favour of the Blue Bombers.

In total, Jackson amassed 339 combined return yards (148 punt return, 191 kickoff return) which was the second-most in Argonauts history, behind only Bashir Levingston’s 345 yards. CFL-wide, it was the fourth-most total kick return yards in a single game.

The Florida Atlantic alum leads the league in punt return average with 22.1 yards per return and is third in the league with a 27.4 kickoff return yard average.

WR | NICK MOORE | BC LIONS

A quarterback change didn’t affect the output from Nick Moore win Week 4. On Saturday night in Hamilton Moore set a personal-best 220 receiving yards on 10 receptions to help the Lions sweep their three-game eastern road trip.

The seven-year CFL veteran found the endzone 41 seconds into the second quarter when Travis Lulay found him in the back of the endzone to give the Lions a 20-13 lead.

The Westerville, Ohio native also notched a new career-long reception when he caught a 34-yard pass and then added 35 yards after the catch for a 69-yard reception midway through the third quarter.

Moore is currently fourth in the league in receiving yards (340) and is third on the team with 18 receptions.
