SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 4

William Stanback, Tre Roberson and Mike Miller named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (July 9, 2019) – William Stanback, Tre Roberson and Mike Miller were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 4 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | WILLIAM STANBACK | MONTREAL ALOUETTES

Montreal Alouettes running back William Stanback played a pivotal role in the team’s 36-29 victory over the East-leading Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Stanback accumulated 249 yards from scrimmage en route to a career-high three touchdowns. The Virginia Union product rushed the ball 22 times for 203 yards (9.2 yards per carry), including seven rushes for 10+ yards and four for 20+ yards. Stanback also reeled in a reception for 46 yards.

The Hempstead, N.Y., native’s first touchdown came midway through the first quarter from five yards out to cap a six-play drive which gave the Alouettes an early 9-0 lead. In the second half, Stanback punched one in from two yards out to help Montreal reclaim the lead 22-18. His third and final major came in the fourth quarter after a 21-yard run with Stanback diving to get the pylon to give the Alouettes a 35-18 lead.

On the season, Stanback leads the league in rushing with 357 yards and four touchdowns, while averaging 8.1 yards per carry. He also has eight receptions for 100 yards.

DB | TRE ROBERSON | CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Calgary’s defensive back Tre Roberson was named a Top Performer following two tackles and two interceptions, including a 48-yard interception return touchdown, in the Stampeders’ 37-10 victory in Saskatchewan.

The Illinois State alum secured his first interception in the second quarter to halt the Riders’ momentum as they marched into Stampeders territory.

Roberson picked off Cody Fajardo for the second time early in the fourth quarter and returned it 48 yards for the major to extend the Stampeders’ lead to 28-10.

On the season, the Indianapolis native leads the league with five interceptions, while also adding 12 tackles.

FB | MIKE MILLER | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Winnipeg’s special teams ace, Mike Miller, was named a Top Performer following a record-tying effort in the Blue Bombers’ 29-14 victory in Ottawa.

The Acadia product recorded seven special teams tackles against the REDBLACKS to become only the seventh player in league history to accomplish the feat. Miller added a reception for 14 yards to help keep the Blue Bombers undefeated.

The Riverview, N.B., native has been one of the league’s premier special teams players. He has recorded eight special teams tackles this season, and now sits 8th all-time with 168.
