SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 5

Jeremiah Masoli, Naaman Roosevelt and Mike Reilly named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (July 26, 2016) – Jeremiah Masoli, Naaman Roosevelt and Mike Reilly were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 5 of the CFL’s 2016 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | Jeremiah Masoli | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Following a dramatic 25-point comeback win against the defending Grey Cup Champions on the road, Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer.

Masoli helped lead the comeback in the Tiger-Cats’ 37-31 victory by breaking a CFL record for most consecutive completions, stringing together 23 passes in a row to break Jason Maas’ record (22) set in 2004.

The San Francisco, California native finished the game with 391 passing yards by completing 31 of 38 passes (81.6%) including three second-half touchdown passes.

With the score 31-6 in favour of the Edmonton Eskimos, the Tiger-Cats began their resurgence when Masoli found Terrence Toliver for a 26-yard major in the third quarter.

Entering the final frame, Masoli found a streaking Andy Fantuz for a 23-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to five points (31-26) early in the fourth quarter. On the following Tiger-Cats possession Masoli once again found Fantuz, this time for the six-yard score to erase their earlier 25-point deficit.

To top it off, the 25-point comeback victory – Hamilton’s third win of the season – was the largest comeback in Hamilton Tiger-Cat history.

Masoli, who is in his fourth season with the Tiger-Cats, has eight touchdown passes this season and now sits second on the CFL passing yards list with 1,532.

REC | Naaman Roosevelt | Saskatchewan Roughriders

Naaman Roosevelt set a career high in receiving yards in a single game and tied his career high for receptions in a game in the Roughriders’ first victory of the season, 30-29 over the Ottawa REDBLACKS at Mosaic Stadium.

The Buffalo Bulls product finished the game as Mitchell Gale’s top target by catching eight of ten passes thrown to him. Roosevelt collected 182 receiving yards, making it back-to-back games where he eclipsed the 100-yard barrier.

On the final play of the third quarter, Gale hit Roosevelt in stride for an 89-yard touchdown to put the Riders within three points of the REDBLACKS.

Roosevelt caught four passes of 12 or more yards in the game.

The Buffalo, New York native leads the team in receiving yards (477), receptions (30) and receptions for 30 or more yards (4).

QB | Mike Reilly | Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly extended his streak of passing for more than 350 yards per game in Edmonton’s home loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday night.

Reilly completed 32 of 42 passes (76.2%), accumulating 354 yards while throwing a trio of touchdown passes.

Last year's Grey Cup MVP found three different receivers for scores against the Tiger-Cats.

In Edmonton’s first possession of the game, Reilly led the team on a 10-play, 85-yard drive that was capped by a Cory Watson five-yard touchdown catch. Moving into the second quarter, Derel Walker caught a 22-yard pass from Reilly to extend the lead to 16-3.

Reilly then started the second half going 6-for-6 on passing attempts and finding Adarius Bowman for the 10-yard strike in the corner of the end zone.

Through four games this season, Reilly leads the league in passing yards with 1,580 and touchdown passes with 10.
