SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 5

Brandon Banks, Vernon Adams Jr. and Andrew Harris named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (July 16, 2019) – Brandon Banks, Vernon Adams Jr. and Andrew Harris were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 5 of the CFL’s 2019 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

REC | BRANDON BANKS | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Brandon Banks scored a trio of touchdowns to help the Tiger-Cats defeat the Stampeders 30-23 at Tim Hortons Field on Saturday.

Banks recorded nine receptions for 86 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a key 115-yard missed field goal return for a touchdown to help Hamilton tie the game with a two-point convert towards the end of the second quarter.

The return gives the Kansas State alum 13 career return touchdowns, includingfive missed field goal return majors.

The Garner, North Carolina native scored his first receiving touchdown to break a 16-16 tie in the fourth quarter. Jeremiah Masoli found Banks wide open in the endzone from 22 yards out. With under three minutes left in the game, Banks once again broke a tie when Masoli found him in the endzone to give Hamilton the lead that they would not relinquish.

Banks also added a two-point convert reception in the game.

This season Banks leads the league with 36 receptions and with 506 receiving yards. 

QB | VERNON ADAMS JR. | MONTREAL ALOUETTES

Montreal pivot, Vernon Adams Jr. had a career game in the Alouettes second straight victory on Saturday over the Ottawa REDBLACKS, 36-19.

The former Oregon Duck set a new benchmark by passing for 327 yards, completed 23 of 30 passes and scored four touchdowns (2 passing, 2 rushing).

Adams first passing touchdown came in the third quarter where he rolled out and found a wide-open Quan Bray for the 75-yard touchdown pass to give the Alouettes a 15-12 lead.

His second touchdown pass capped a 10-play drive with a six-yard touchdown pass to Jake Wieneke in traffic, and Bede added the extra point to give Montreal a 22-12 lead near the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Adams added a pair of rushing touchdowns including a highlight reel run from 12-yards out and a one-yard plunge.

Adams has started three games this season and has gone 2-1.

RB | ANDREW HARRIS | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Blue Bombers running back collected 123 all-purpose yards and scored a touchdown to help Winnipeg improve to 4-0 on the season after defeating the Argonauts 48-21.

On the ground Harris carried the rock 14 times for 116 rushing yards (8.3 yards per carry) which was the second time this season he surpassed the century mark.

The Winnipeg native also added five receptions for seven yards including a four-yard touchdown catch early in the first quarter.

On the season Harris has racked up 378 rushing yards, 101 receiving yards and two majors this season.
