SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 6

Mitchell, Hajrullahu and Jefferson named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 2, 2016) – Bo Levi Mitchell, Lirim Hajrullahu and A.J. Jefferson were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 6 of the CFL’s 2016 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | Bo Levi Mitchell | Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders pivot Bo Levi Mitchell was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer following the Stamps’ thrilling 44-41 overtime victory over the BC Lions on Friday night at McMahon Stadium.

The Katy, Texas native completed 29 of 44 passes for 364 yards and threw a trio of touchdowns in the victory that gave the Stampeders sole possession of first place in the West Division.

Mitchell found receiver Greg Wilson twice for touchdowns. He first connected with Wilson for a 75-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to slice into the BC Lions lead and put the game at 17-12. Early in the fourth quarter Wilson was able to shed coverage and score on a 42-yard major to put the Stampeders in striking distance.

With just over a minute left in regulation and the Stampeders needing a touchdown, Mitchell threw a quick pass to Bakari Grant for the major to put Calgary within two points.

With the game on the line, Mitchell was able to roll out of the pocket and find a streaking Anthony Parker for the two-point conversion to tie the game up at 41 apiece.

Calgary would go on to win in overtime following a 42-yard Rene Paredes field goal.

This season Mitchell has passed for 1,584 yards and is tied for the league lead with 11 touchdowns passes.

K/P | Lirim Hajrullahu | Toronto Argonauts

Toronto Argonauts kicker/punter Lirim Hajrullahu was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer after going a perfect 5 for 5 on field goals including a 53-yard field goal that clinched the 23-20 road victory for the Argonauts over the Ottawa REDBLACKS.

The Western Mustang product successfully kicked field goals from 25, 37, 43, and 49 yards out, as well as the game-winning kick from 53 yards out.

Hajrullahu netted 17 points throughout the game by adding a convert and a single with his five field goals.

In the punting game, Hajrullahu notched eight punts totalling 378 yards (47.3 yards per punt) and added three kickoffs for 200 yards (66.7 yards per kickoff).

In his first season with the Argonauts, Hajrullahu has successfully hit 16 of 19 field goals (84.2%), has gone 12 for 13 on extra point attempts and 44.0 yards per punt average on the season.

He is currently only one field goal behind the league leader, Christoper Milo. Hajrullahu is also the first ever kicker/punter to be named a Shaw Top Performer.

DB | A.J. Jefferson | Toronto Argonauts

Toronto Argonauts defensive back A.J. Jefferson was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer after notching a pair of interceptions en route to the Argonauts’ 23-20 victory in Ottawa on Sunday night.

The Bakersfield, California native recorded his first interception of the season after snagging a Danny O’Brien pass when the REDBLACKS attempted a fake field goal play on Toronto’s five-yard line.

Following Hajrullahu’s 53-yard field goal, the REDBLACKS were looking to rally back. With under a minute to play in the game, Jefferson was able to intercept his second pass of the game, this time on a Henry Burris throw to seal the victory for the visiting Argonauts.

Jefferson collected 29 return yards from his two interceptions and added five tackles in the game.

In his second season in the CFL, the Fresno State product has accumulated 13 tackles and two interceptions in three games this season.
