SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 6
TORONTO (July 24th, 2018) – Andrew Harris, Brad Sinopoli and Trevor Harris were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 6 of the CFL’s 2018 season.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
RB | ANDREW HARRIS | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS
Running back Andrew Harris was an offensive machine on Saturday night in Toronto, pulling the Winnipeg Blue Bombers ahead for a 38-20 victory over the Argonauts.
Harris rushed for 161 yards on 27 carries, adding 16 receiving yards and two touchdowns (one rushing, one catch). His 177 offensive yards, a career best, outstripped the entirety of Toronto’s offence (173). It was his third consecutive game accumulating over 100 rushing yards.
A 14-yard run by Harris just minutes into the game set up a touchdown for Darvin Adams on the following play. He scored one of his own on Winnipeg’s next drive: Harris completed dashes of three yards, 10 yards, one yard, four yards and a final one-yard plunge to put Winnipeg ahead 14-0 after a successful convert.
Harris kept up the pace, working with quarterback Matt Nichols to keep the ball moving and put kicker Justin Medlock into position for several successful field goals.
In his ninth CFL season – his third for his hometown team – Harris leads the league with 610 rushing yards and five touchdowns in six games. He has an additional 158 receiving yards and two touchdown catches. He also leads the CFL with 95 carries.
Harris now sits second all-time on Canadian rushing yards list with 6,847 career yards.
WR | BRAD SINOPOLI | OTTAWA REDBLACKS
Receiver Brad Sinopoli was a crucial part of Ottawa’s down-to-the-wire win over the visiting BC Lions on Friday night.
Sinopoli reeled in a game-high 171 receiving yards on 11 catches. He also scored a touchdown in a game that put the REDBLACKS in first place in the East.
The Peterborough, ON native had a roaring third quarter, catching five balls on an eight-play Ottawa drive including a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trevor Harris just over the line to bring the REDBLACKS within a few points of the Lions.
Sinopoli sits first this year in receptions with 36, and second overall in receiving yards with 470. He is on pace for his fourth straight season with 1000+ yards.
This is Sinopoli’s second appearance as a 2018 Shaw Top Performer; he was also named in Week 4.
QB | TREVOR HARRIS | OTTAWA REDBLACKS
Ottawa pivot Trevor Harris put in a strong game at TD Place against the BC Lions to give the REDBLACKS a home win in a tight game.
Harris amassed 363 passing yards, going 30-for-44. He also recorded 13 rushing yards in the contest.
He stitched together two lengthy drives in the first quarter, giving first-year kicker Lewis Ward the opportunity to make two successful field goals, followed by another in the second frame.
Ottawa’s offence seized momentum in the third quarter, with Harris orchestrating an eight-play drive that culminated in a 13-yard toss to Brad Sinopoli for the score. Harris put Ward on the 36-yard line to tie the game early in the fourth quarter, and later brought Ottawa 78 yards in seven plays before handing the ball to William Powell for a touchdown – and the win – with just 49 seconds remaining.
Harris has 1,278 passing yards and six touchdowns on 173 attempts in 2018.
