SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 7

Medlock, Leggett and Burnham named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 9th, 2017) – Justin Medlock, Maurice Leggett and Bryan Burnham were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 7 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

K/P | JUSTIN MEDLOCK | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Justin Medlock’s buzzer-beater kick gave Winnipeg their second come-from-behind win in as many weeks, pulling them ahead of the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Friday in the final seconds.

The Santa Clara, California native earned 21 points for the Blue Bombers in their 33-30 win at TD Place. Medlock collected two singles, six field goals, and one convert.

His final attempt of the game, from 38 yards, came in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter in a tied game as quarterback Matt Nichols marched 33 yards down the field in 30 seconds to set up the former UCLA Bruin for the game-winning kick.

Last year’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and All-Star also added three punts for 124 yards (41.3 yards per punt) and seven kickoffs for 505 yards (72.1 yards per kickoff) including a pivotal single late in the fourth quarter on a kickoff in the game.

Medlock has made 18 of his 22 field goal attempts in 2017 for an 81.8% success rate, with a career-high punting average of 42.8 yards, is second in the league with 76 points scored and has gone a perfect 19 for 19 on convert attempts this season. In 2016 he made 60 of 68 attempts, going 39-for-39 inside 40 yards.

DB | MAURICE LEGGETT | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Defensive back Maurice Leggett helped the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to a last-minute 33-30 win in Ottawa on Friday night with a big game.

Leggett collected a forced fumble in addition to seven defensive tackles, including two quarterback sacks. His first sack came at the end of the third quarter on quarterback Ryan Lindley, forcing a fumble and a crucial turnover on downs.

The Valdosta State alum wrapped up his second sack – and a four-yard team loss on the REDBLACKS – at the opening of the fourth quarter on Trevor Harris.

The McKeesport, Pennsylvania native has 20 defensive tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble and one interception in 2017.

WR | BRYAN BURNHAM | BC LIONS

Burnham reached 131 yards and a touchdown to help the BC Lions to their 30-15 win over West Division rivals the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday night.

He caught five of six targets, starting off with a bang by going up for a 35-yard catch at the end of the first quarter.

The former member of the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Travis Lulay straight down the middle at the top of the second quarter to strengthen the Lions’ early lead and make it 14-0 after Lulay’s conversion.

His 131-yard game marked the third time this season Burnham has gone over the 100-yard barrier.

Burnham has 32 receptions and two touchdowns on the season, making himself a vital part of BC’s offence. He is third in the league with 546 receiving yards.
