SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 8
Fogg, Denmark and Lacey named Shaw CFL Top Performers
TORONTO (August 16, 2016) – Kevin Fogg, Clarence Denmark and Deon Lacey were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 8 of the CFL’s 2016 season.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
DB | Kevin Fogg | Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back Kevin Fogg intercepted two passes and added a fumble recovery to help the Bombers extend their winning streak to three games with their 34-17 victory over the Toronto Argonauts.
The Raleigh, North Carolina native intercepted his second pass of the season during the second quarter when he climbed up to grab a Logan Kilgore pass that was intended for Kenny Shaw. Fogg went on to return the interception 22-yards, a play that ended with a Justin Medlock field goal.
The Argonauts received the opening kick in the second half but three plays into their drive, Fogg recovered a fumble ball by the Argonauts to halt their push.
Later in the third frame, Fogg added another interception, this time as Kilgore was targeting Diontae Spencer. Fogg came away from the play with his third interception of the season.
In the game, Fogg finished with four tackles including a quarterback sack. He also returned six punts for 98 yards (16.3 yards per return) and a kickoff return for 20 yards.
In his first season in the CFL, Fogg is fifth in the league with 42 tackles and has the second-highest total of interceptions in the league with three.
REC | Clarence Denmark | Winnipeg Blue Bombers
In his second game back with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Clarence Denmark had a career game against Toronto in the Bombers’ third road victory of the season.
Denmark racked up seven receptions for a career-best 195 yards, and also scored a pair of touchdowns versus the Argonauts.
In the second quarter, Matt Nichols found a wide-open Denmark for a 29-yard major that gave the Blue Bombers a 12-10 advantage. In the Blue Bombers’ first possession of the fourth quarter, Nichols found a streaking Denmark for a 79-yard touchdown. This time it gave the visiting Blue Bombers a 26-10 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Four of the seven receptions Denmark recorded were 20+ yards.
Through two games this season, Denmark has 14 receptions for 262 yards and a trio of touchdowns.
LB | Deon Lacey | Edmonton Eskimos
Deon Lacey set a new career-high in tackles in a single game and added his first career interception in Edmonton’s 23-12 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.
The product of West Alabama had a team-high nine tackles to bring his season total up to 44, good enough for fourth in the CFL.
Late in the fourth quarter with the Alouettes down four points and looking to make a last surge to win the game, Lacey dropped back into coverage and hauled in a Kevin Glenn pass and returned it 19 yards for the touchdown to seal the win for Edmonton.
The native of Brighton, Alabama is in his third season in the CFL.
