SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 9

Harris, Nichols and Green named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 22, 2017) – Andrew Harris, Matt Nichols and SJ Green were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 9 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

RB | ANDREW HARRIS | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Andrew Harris played a vital part in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 33-26 victory over the first-place Edmonton Eskimos on Thursday Night at Investors Group Field.

The Winnipeg native recorded 105 rushing yards on 11 carries (9.5 yards per carry) and added eight receptions for 120 yards (15 yards per reception). This marked the first time that a player recorded 100+ rushing and 100+ receiving yards in a single game since Montreal’s Avon Cobourne in 2008.

Against Edmonton, Harris had 11 touches that went for 10+ yards (six rushes, five receptions).

The eight-year veteran is having one of his best seasons in the CFL. Harris is second in the league in rushing with 495 yards and has added 459 receiving yards. He is on pace to become the first player ever to record 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in a single season.

QB | MATT NICHOLS | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Matt Nichols passed for a season-high 390 yards to help the Blue Bombers give the Edmonton Eskimos their first loss of the season.

Nichols completed 80% of his passes, rushed for 23 yards, and collected two touchdowns: one passing, one rushing.

The Eastern Washington product found Darvin Adams late in the first half from 25 yards out to give the Blue Bombers a 16-3 lead. Nichols rushed in for a touchdown of his own from the one-yard line in the midway through the third quarter to extend the Bombers’ lead to 23-10.

On the season, Nichols has passed for 2,414 yards. He has 14 touchdown passes while completing 70.4% of his passes.

REC | SJ GREEN | TORONTO ARGONAUTS

Toronto Argonauts receiver SJ Green recorded a game-high 145 receiving yards to help propel Toronto into first place in the East Division following their 38-6 victory at BMO Field.

Green recorded nine receptions for 145 yards including two touchdown catches versus the Montreal Alouettes. It marked his third 100+ receiving yard game of the season.

On the Argonauts’ first drive of the game, Green capped off a nine-play drive with a 16-yard touchdown pass to give the Argonauts a 6-0 lead in the opening quarter. Ricky Ray found Green again in the second quarter for an 29-yard major, his fifth touchdown of the year.

Green is off to a great start this season. He is second in the league in receiving yards (850) and receptions (56) and has the most targets this season with 88.

This is the third-time Green has been named a Top Performer (previously in Weeks 1 and 3).
