SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 9

SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 9

Harris, Bighill and Rainey named Shaw CFL Top Performers

TORONTO (August 14th, 2018) – Trevor Harris, Adam Bighill and Chris Rainey were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 9 of the CFL’s 2018 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

QB | TREVOR HARRIS | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

Quarterback Trevor Harris had a huge game on Saturday, solidifying the Ottawa REDBLACKS’ first place in the East with a 24-17 win over the Montreal Alouettes.

Harris had 487 yards in the contest, a career best. He went 44 for 54, steering Ottawa to 34 first downs and 587 net offensive yards.

The Edinboro alum put kicker Lewis Ward into position for successful field goals in the second and fourth quarters.

The big score came on Ottawa’s opening drive of the third quarter, a patient 11-play, 101-yard push that culminated in a 14-yard pass to RJ Harris. William Powell ran in another touchdown, this one in the final frame after Harris set up the REDBLACKS 10 yards out of the end zone.

Harris is third in the league with 2,374 passing yards and nine passing touchdowns. He was previously named a Shaw Top Performer in Week 6.

LB | ADAM BIGHILL | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS

Linebacker Adam Bighill helped the Blue Bombers to a thrilling last-minute 29-23 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday.

Bighill collected seven defensive tackles, including a sack, and added a forced fumble to the equation to give Winnipeg the win.

Those seven tackles made Bighill the #25 tackler of all time, tied with Marvin Coleman with 538 in his career. It took Bighill just 107 games to do what Coleman achieved in 166.

The Montesano, Washington native forced a fumble from Hamilton’s Alex Green in the first quarter, turning the ball over to Winnipeg and leading to a touchdown on their following drive.

Bighill had a big first quarter, sacking quarterback Jeremiah Masoli on the final play of the frame for a loss of eight yards.

Bighill was previously named a Shaw Top Performer in Week 4. He leads the league in defensive tackles with 49, on pace for his third career season of 100+ tackles.

RB | CHRIS RAINEY | BC LIONS

Chris Rainey helped take the BC Lions to a 31-23 win over Edmonton at BC Place on Thursday night with a versatile performance and big yards.

The five-year CFL veteran collected 135 punt return yards and a punt return touchdown, in addition to his 50 kickoff return yards and 36 receiving yards.

In the second quarter, Rainey turned in a monster season-high 79-yard punt return for the major to earn his fourth career punt return touchdown.

In six games played, Rainey has 608 kickoff return yards, 390 punt return yards, 157 receiving yards, 74 rushing yards and a punt return touchdown.
