SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS - WEEK 20

Arceneaux, Franklin and Zylstra named Shaw CFL Top Performers

Toronto (November 12, 2015) – Emmanuel Arceneaux, James Franklin and Brandon Zylstra were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 20 of the CFL’s 2016 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

WR | EMMANUEL ARCENEAUX | BC LIONS

BC Lions leading receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux finished his season with an electric 180-yard receiving yard game in the Lions’ season finale, a 41-18 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at BC Place on Saturday.

The 6’2” receiver was targeted 11 times and caught 10 passes, including a pair of touchdowns, while setting a personal season-high 180 yards in a single game.

Arceneaux scored his first major midway through the first quarter. After he snagged a 36-yard completion, quarterback Jonathon Jennings found Arceneaux for a four-yard touchdown to give the Lions a 6-0 lead. His second of the night, from 13 yards out, came later in the first quarter; it was was his 13th touchdown of the season.

His second touchdown was also his 100th reception of the season, and his 10 receptions in the game also tied a season-high.

In his sixth season in the CFL Arceneaux set new career highs in receptions (105), yards (1,566) and touchdowns (13). This is the third time this season Arceneaux has topped the list as a Shaw CFL Top Performer (Weeks 14 and 18); he was also named a Top Performer of the Month in October.

QB | JAMES FRANKLIN | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

James Franklin made the most of his opportunity to start Edmonton’s final game of the season and set a new personal high for touchdown passes in Edmonton’s convincing 41-17 victory over the visiting Toronto Argonauts.

Franklin completed 18 of 23 passes (78.2%) for 335 yards (tying a personal best) and passed for a career-high four touchdowns.

The product from the University of Missouri found Brandon Zylstra for two majors, the first coming midway through the first quarter from 28 yards out and the second in the second quarter, this time from 15 yards out.

Franklin’s two other touchdowns came on receptions from Shakir Bell and a 72-yard strike to Devon Bailey.

WR | BRANDON ZYLSTRA | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Edmonton receiver Brandon Zlystra join his teammate James Franklin as a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week following the Eskimos’ victory over the Toronto Argonauts in their season finale.

The CFL rookie set a new career high with nine receptions for 186 yards and scored two touchdowns in only his sixth CFL game.

Zylstra and Franklin developed chemistry early in the game. Franklin rolled out of the pocket and found Zylstra for a short pass; Zylstra did the rest to run it into the endzone for the 28-yard major.

Zylstra’s second touchdown of the game and third of the season came in the second quarter. Franklin was able to lob a pass over the defence to find Zylstra for the 15-yard score.

85 of Zylstra’s 186 yards came from yards after the catch versus the Argonauts.

The first-year player from Concordia College in Minnesota finished his season with 34 receptions for 508 yards and three touchdowns. Zylstra was recently named Edmonton’s Most Outstanding Rookie of the Year.
